Not worth the Stress!
Executive Assistant (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAJanuary 6, 2019
The North America main office is in New York, and SF is an extension of it. The manager for this position, you never meet, but this person poorly communicates with you, only when there is a problem. The other EA's are helpful, but they are slammed busy too. You are the only EA in SF office, and often just figuring it out. This would be okay, but you have very needy people in this office that are not long on patience.

I was thrown into the weeds after the previous EA left, with 1 week of training, to learn many operations. The training while they did their best, there was not a lot of tools to refer back to accept for a screenshot book that really did not help you troubleshoot in the process of using the software. Would have been so helpful if there had been a training video with a reference index as to where to click in the video to find your solution. Having a visual tool would have been really great!

The managing directors, for the most part, were okay, but they push for everything and basically, and if you make a mistake, be ready for some rudeness. The associates think of you as a tool in the office to service them solely, as if you really aren't anything important... there is no team spirit here. It's their cohort, and the next cohort and you simply serve them. So, don't think you will feel part of a team, you absolutely won't.

Very demanding, very fast pace (which I actually liked). It is intimidating to be managed by someone you have never met, nor has an inviting or warm communication style. Straight up stereotype New Yorker, a no-nonsense type person, so if
more... you are looking for warm, collaborative, inclusive, this is absolutely NOT the place for you.

I also understand the bonuses are poor. The previous EA was glad to leave as well.

Pros
Pay, Day goes by FAST, benefits
Cons
Management, cheap on resources, everyone working around you and talking over your head as if you are not there, not real support in SF, force yourself to take a break. They don't like overtime.

You should not miss the opportunity to join the workforce of this company. You will find it a truly rewarding experience, and you may also receive monetary remuneration after an initial probationary period of 62 years.

good environment, really low pay
Senior Vice President, Enterprise Technology (Former Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 26, 2018
Really interesting work, very global, but they don't understand how to pay people. Low base pay, bosunses are really poor. They only pay the top 10 percent of the work force. Lots of paperwork / time tracking. Almost like a law firm.
Management changes constantly so had to be consistant. All reviews / performance evals are managed out of Sydney so had to demonstrate achievment from the US.
Pros
good people, challenging work
Cons
really low pay

Good Company and Engaging
Executive Assistant (Former Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 21, 2018
Overall - amazing people and opportunity to grow with the right management support.

Lots of opportunities to get involved in the community and collaborate with other employees.

Positive culture, but for most people long hours and avoid the politics.

To advance in your career you have to be willing to put in long hours and travel. So the worklife balance they push for is not always realistic.

Your effort can go by unnoticed because it's such a large organization and very competitive.

Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 30, 2018
Having worked across multiples at Macquarie, success, career and enjoyment, and quality of life is heavily dependent on which group you're in, and which managers / directors you work with.

Even though Macquarie's US operations are small, the depth of products, knowledge base, and reach is on equal footing with other Global Banks. The bank is well known as a huge funding and operational player in the infrastructure projects space. Excellent benefits, competitive pay.

Poor management culture
Investment Banking Analyst (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 26, 2017
Poor management - managers are unnecessarily punitive regarding any work-related errors but have no interest in mentoring juniors. It is not uncommon to request a day off and alert team members, only to be pulled in to do work anyways.

Mid-level managers often shout at juniors on the floor and senior managers make no effort to intervene.
