Definitely management verses employee mentality with the employee being replaceable. Employees not valued nor is retention leading to just being another number.

Stressful Atmopshere
Project Manager/Business Analyst (Consultant) (Former Employee) –  Madison, WIOctober 26, 2017
Although I would consider it a stressful environment to work in, I absolutely enjoyed the individuals I worked with. The majority of them are more than happy to assist and share knowledge with others and do what needs to be done to complete a task/project.

An unwelcoming Enviroment
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Madison, WIMay 18, 2016
MG&E is a very unorganized company that is stuck back in time. Processes that should be ran via internet are still worked through paper. Not a very diverse selection of people. Although they are working to integrate the company, the company people are not very welcoming to minorities. The training is HORRIBLE. If your looking for a small unorganized company that is not very open for change this would be a great place. No one is aware of what they should be doing, nothing is communicated , no one is on the same page. They are just winging it.
Pros
pay, healthcare
Cons
co workers, not diverse, unwelcoming, unprofessional

Great place if you hate efficiency and progress
Security Analyst (Former Employee) –  Madison, WIFebruary 25, 2013
Good company, terrible IT department, especially IT Security. If you enjoy working with mind numbingly tedious and redundant manual processes, then this is the place for you. If you enjoy working with stale technology with no eye towards the future, this is the place for you. If you enjoy micromanagement and spending more time documenting and justifying your time than actually doing work, then the IT Security department will be perfect for you.
Pros
good health plan to pay for the antidepressants you'll need
Cons
cafeteria serves nursing home food

Golden handcuffs will keep you long-but not best for advancing
GOF - office worker (Former Employee) –  Madison, WIAugust 9, 2011
This company has great benefits, but its a typical corportation. Its bloated on top, the mid level mgmt workers are lazy, and theres way too much chit chat talking during the normal work day. Supervisors are often part of the chit chat culture that subscribe to standing around, wasting time. They could definetly stand to cut 1/4-1/3 of the workforce and it would still be just as productive.

The pay is very good as is the sick time, vacation benefits that will keep you there a long time.

But advancing is difficult, and if you get stuck in a dead end job or department, HR and mgtmt could care less about you getting out of it.

If you just want to go to work, collect a paycheck and go home, this is your place. If you want to feel appreciated, advance or simply have a quiet work environment without the shackles of politics, this is not your place to work.

Best advice, if you're a motivated employee, work at MGE no more then 3-5 years and get out before those golden handcuffs get you locked up for 10, 20, 30 years.... Complacency is the norm.
Pros
good benefits
Cons
lazy mgmt politics no advancing.
