Improve the orientation program, extend it beyond a day, craft an effective on-boarding program for each employee in their respective work units, and implement a 30, 60, 90 day quality check to ensure the new hire has a reasonable opportunity to become successful. If an objective HR professional will conduct exit interviews they will have all the information needed to develop an effective operational improvement agenda. People are excited on their first day of work ... what happens in the next 90 days is a consequence, either positive or negative, for developing a productive employee positioned to make meaningful contributions toward the County mission.
