SSS is a great role for a student, the pay is horrible but you do learn a lot. If you are looking to impact the lives of many underserved students this is def for you. MCCD offers a lot of recourse for ALL of there students.

Maricopa Community Colleges is good overall. (Everyone's experience will differ depending on which department/campus they go into)You have to pay into Arizona State Retirement which takes a few hundred buck out of your pay. There are people that have been there for decades, and that is usually the problem. If you are hired into your position that's where you will be no matter what. You need to leave and come back to advance. Most positions here are only school oriented. There is nepotism, conflicts of interest, managers not knowing anything, and managers knowing too much and thinking they are above rules and common decency. There is a high turnover for people just coming into their work. The people who have been there forever don't want to teach anything because they are sick of the turnover. If you get a full time job with any campus or district office be on your best behavior with everyone, and kiss the shoes of the people above you. Failure to do this will get you shadow banned within the district and you cant move around to better positions. Every trick in the book will be pulled on you for pay increases and positioning so be ready for it. If you get a job wait until after your probation ends and make sure you demand from your manager performance reviews. If you want to get paid more and reclassified, you have to have these reviews, most departments do not do them. Couple positives of Maricopa CC, you get a good work life balance and you are treated like a human. You get school holidays off like MLK day and Veterans day off and a week for December Holidays. All paid if you are fulltime. And you and your spouse get free college with any campus in the district.

I understand the need for efficiency and I support it. "Doing more with less" has been a constant topic during my career. I have no problems with that. However I think this college is too conservative and dull when it comes to take some risks and make decisions that lead to progress and making the work environment more efficient and effective.

Great paid time off and inclusive culture but the salaries are not competitive. Change goes not occur quickly so that can be frustrating if you come from a more nimble work environment.
