Ok place to work. Bad management.
N/A (Current Employee) –  Falmouth, MAAugust 28, 2018
Management is poor. usual the boss leaves early and has poor communication with employees leaving other people to fill the role. Which means some people having more power than others who really shouldn't. I would recommend to look elsewhere for a job. The pay is pretty good with good benefits. But the atmosphere really doesn't make up for the poor management and the divide between employees.

It is intense but worthwhile. Hours are whatever you make them, but you will always wish you worked more. People are great, and the area is even better.

Wonderful place to work and EXCELLENT research scientists
Research Assistant (Internship) (Former Employee) –  Woods Hole, MAJune 1, 2016
A typical day at work involved entering the lab at 8am and leaving around 5pm. I specifically worked with two scientists who specialized in cephalopods. The scientists were extremely knowledgable in their subject areas and personable. They provided a significant amount of support both in the lab and in real life. Laboratory facilities were immaculate.I would recommend going to MBL during the summer because there are many visiting scientists (studying a wide range of subjects) and a more active social scene due to concerts, food markets, holiday parades, etc.
Pros
Great staff/research scientists, near WHOI (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute)
Cons
Relatively far from big cities

Productive and fun area to work in
HHMI Undergraduate Researcher (Former Employee) –  Woods Hole, MAMay 6, 2016
The Marine Biological Laboratory is a great place to work at if you do not mind working extra hours. It is in an intense place of work but there are always time you can squeeze in to go to the beach, have a day trip at Martha's Vineyard or go fishing. During the work day, we would continuously dissect and analyze the squid axoplasm and sometimes we would have 8 axoplasms to analyze so the work day may end up being 10 hours+. My work day surrounded on when the squid would arrive. The squid would arrive just a few days a week and should be used no more than 2 days after caught. Sundays and Monday mornings were the best time to go to the beach as those times there were no squid to use. I loved working on the research and using squid as our animal model as well as taking some breaks to soak in the sun. Overall, it's a great place to work at!
Pros
wonderful area
Cons
short breaks

For those working in the biological sciences, this is an excellent place to work. The location is in Woods Hole, MA, on Cape Cod, and the location couldn't be better. Ocean right outside your door. Small town with a nice comfortable environment. Nice benefits, though the rates of pay are very low.
Pros
Location!

Diverse work force
Payroll Accountant (Former Employee) –  Woods Hole, MAJanuary 6, 2014
I was responsible for the bi weekly payroll. Normally around 200 - 250 employees but would grow to around 500 in the summer months.
I learned the tell the difference between alien and non alien workers
For the most part co-workers were fine
Hardest part of the job was the location. It was across the street from the ocean and it was sometimes difficult to concentrate on the job at hand over watching the water and the boats.
Most enjoyable was also the location.. It was really pleasant to take your lunch and breaks out by the water
Pros
Ecellent Benefits
Cons
Upper management

Unfortunate management lead to unhappy employees
Catering Assistant (Former Employee) –  Woods Hole, MAJanuary 10, 2013
Unfortunately, management at the time was an extreme micro-manager, not allowing employees to handle anything themselves, but also refusing to do any of the physical work themselves.
