It's prison don't expect a lot of good things. It's a very negative environment but if you can leave work at work, it's a great job for the upper peninsula

Michigan's toughest prison. The end of the line for Michigans worst prisoners. People with thin skin need not apply. Great job if you handle stress well

Good Place to Work, Better than where I worked before

I worked fir the Department of Cirrections for over 30 years. The last 5 years was at Marquette Branch Prison and they were by dar the best five years of them all. They do still have the "Good Ole Boy" System as does the entire De[artment of Corrections, too bad, they don't promote those that are best for the position, I would hae stayed. Promotion of Cusotdy staff still is at the mercy of the adminstration, upset them and they move you to a shift that punishes your entire family (This is a department as a whole).

Pros

Great place to work compared to other faicilities I worked.

Cons

The Department on a whole still follows the "Good Ole Boy" System.

Worked at a Prison

Working at a prison can be a challenging career choice. I worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections for over 30 years. The last 5 were the best years because of the people I worked with at Marquette Branch Prison, A family. The department as a whole is becoming more centralized, Lansing is making decisions that really should be reviewed. People that never actually worked in a prison are making decisions and policy that are very strenuous and stressful on the staff that it affects. The ideas may be sound but, their application is questionable.

Terrible management

Being an officer at MBP used to be fun and safe until the supervision changed and people were promoted to the top spots in the department made this job completely unsafe and stressful.

Pros

You learn a lot about yourself and others.

Cons

You learn how corruption is running the MDOC
