Mars has good benefits, decent pay and opportunities to advance but the shift work and mandatory overtime make the job hard and creates lots of turnover.
Pros
Good benefits

Mars is not for everyone
Brand Manager (Former Employee) –  Vernon, CAOctober 2, 2018
Mars is a place where you work in a completely open environment, similar to what you see in start-ups or in newspaper rooms on TV. However, it is completely quiet so you can hear someone break out in laughter across the vacuous room. People create their own space by limiting their participation with other groups. \

Mars is built in silos and people do not care about what is before them or after them, only what they can control in their area.

This creates a challenging work environment for creating change. People do not show up for a scheduled meeting unless you call and remind them the week, the day before, and the day of the meeting. It's the most bizarre thing.

They also fire the lowest performing %5 no questions asked, so it also create a very competitive environment where people hold back information.
Pros
Its a large stable company
Cons
Its slow to change and restrictive

Great company to work for!
Logistics Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Franklin, TNSeptember 26, 2018
It was so fun to go to work! Pets were allowed and it was nice to go talk to a furry friend when needing a break. Also, since the mother company was Mars candy, we had free candy bowls all over the office. The benefits were terrific and affordable health coverage. We would get lunch brought in at least twice a week. Lots of fun corporate events.
Pros
Great benefits, stable working environment, room for advancement, pet friendly, free chocolate
Cons
Too many meetings, people literally walk around with open laptops all day long

Good Place to Start
Project Lead (Current Employee) –  Franklin, TNSeptember 25, 2018
Mars is a great place to start a career with little to no experience after graduating college. They provide yearly training classes, on the job training, and a friendly environment to learn and grow. The open environment structure can make it difficult to concentrate and can be very loud at times. Most people wear headphones. It is nice to bring dogs to work. There is alot of room for growth inside the company. The restructuring can make it difficult to stick with a specific career plan, but provides opportinities to learn multiple departments.
Pros
bring your dogs to work, employee training
Cons
frequent re-structure with job eliminations, open work environment is distracting

There is no team work in the albany rotating maintenance teams . Everything mars say about using your ideas is not true . They work on its the highway or by way principal. They discriminate about age i would not recommend anyone going to work there in the maintenance area . And the 5 principals they dont follow them

Not a job for the weak stomach
SENIOR FILLER/SEAMER OPERATOR (Former Employee) –  Columbus, OHSeptember 7, 2018
No climate control in the plant. Working with raw commodities that can spoil and create bugs..ie maggots. Advancing is a "boys club" culture where seniority means nothing. Raises are few and far between.
Pros
Pay is above average
Cons
rotating shifts

Strange place to work.Treated their people well, but no one had an office. Open floor plan. Most of their were lifers, all retired young. Retire benefits were good. If you love candy, you can eat as much as you want while you are on the job.

Operator line lead (Former Employee) –  Kansas City, MOSeptember 4, 2018
the best part about my job, was the interactions with my fellow employees and the camaraderie that we have developed throughout the years of working their. The company gave 6 weeks paid time of in the event of child birth. 6 for male and 12 for female employees.
The worst thing about the job is the work life balance.
Pros
competitive pay

Mars is a solid company growing through acquisition. The company has some solid products but nothing earth shattering in terms of innovations or technical development.
