Tough environment

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The favoritism and inconsistencies in the kitchen and host stand are the most difficult things about this job. Its not unusual to run out of clean silverware or drinking glasses mid dinner shift or for the dishwasher to break down. Triple seating is common on busy days, efficiency and time management is important. Lunch shifts tend to make 40 to 50 dollars unless you stay late. Dinner shift averages $100 on the good nights it can be closer to $200. There is alot of opening and closing sidework to do. Its not unusual to leave after 11pm when the restaurant closes at 9. Most servers get 4 tables.

Pros

High volume, close to Marta & Foxx.

Cons

Disorganized & lacking resources.

Good.

very fun atmosphere. It is very high volume and very demanding. The management can show favoritism at times but as long as you show up and are not tardy and do your job well you can make a decent amount of money.

Don't apply if your sensitive. Its like gladiator school.Very stressful position, compensation is trash, and you'll want to quite everyday. You'll loath going back during your off days.

Do not recommend working here

The turn over rate is incredibly high, I was told that my first shift by several other employees. They all told me how messed up management was and it only took me a week to find that out. I told them at my interview I wasn’t looking for more than 20-25 hours a week because of health issues and ended up with almost 40 my first week. No organization. No direction from management, they were just as lost as the employees it was my first hosting job and I was in no way properly trained I was cat called on a daily basis by male employees, nothing was done. Another male employee that was 20+ years older than me got my phone number off the schedule and was texting very inappropriate things, made the working environment way too uncomfortable for my taste

Best jobs I ever had

This was one of the best staffs that I have worked around. Definitely a company that cares about their employees. It's not surprising that this restaurant has employees that have been working at Mary Mac's for over 40 years!

Not worth the stress.

I worked at Mary Mac's for several years and I found the overall quality of the job to be poor. It's literally like a mad-house and rules change way too often. Most management is not on the same page, which leads to a lot of confusion when it is time to implement new ideas. The clientele and some of the associates that work there are extremely immature and make an easy job so much more complicated than it needs to be. Additionally, all communication is done via email. Literally, ALL. I would receive over 100 emails a day. On my off days, I was still expected to have read all the emails by the time I came back. I was constantly on my phone reading emails, which led me to feel like I never had a day off mentally. However, the pay was pretty solid and I could've stayed there until I was 92. Very good job security.

Pros

Decent pay, free food, somewhat nice people

Cons

Lack of order, Defiant employees, Emails

Poor management

Management doesn’t care much about anything. The food is not what it used to be. There is a lot of favoritism going around. In a “rebuilding” stage staff wise.

Server

I work there for almost 3 months. I will say I did not like the company. No employee break room way too much so sidework. You are require to work doubles. Pray the hostess seat you right. It was the worst companies I ever work for. They dont care if you ar sick..etc so if you work here just stack and leave

Pros

Tip out every night

Cons

No free menus no discounts on off day

Great Atmosphere and Efficiency

MMTR has been around for decades, so it's no wonder they're so good at what they do. They focus a lot of customer service and it's a very proficient setting. MMTR has a great reputation in the South, and stands as one of Atlanta's historic landmarks. The managers are great, and the money is very decent as well. one of the best things you'll learn is how to be efficient, and critical thinking skills. You have to be very organized and capable of fast-thinking and multi-tasking to succeed.

Large fast-paced environment

Mary Mac's is a very large and very busy restaurant. No benefits and no paid vacations. The hours were long and stressful. The owner was very difficult to work for.

not an ideal career choice

The employees at MMTR are extremely friendly and customer service oriented. Also not afraid to lend a helping hand. The management on the other hand, are poorly trained very disconnected from the events and scheduled reservations of the day. Unfortunately, the slack from the majority of the management puts an extreme burden on the one or two reliable managers and the rest of the slack is expected to be picked up by employees that are under paid and held accountable for incomplete managerial duties,

Pros

great comraderie amongst employees

Cons

poor mangement and poor compensation

great place with great people

The day would start normal times and start slowly and build sometimes to a frantic crowd. We got guests from all walks of life and almost levels of guests from newcomers to been coming since the doors opened and it was definitely a cultural setting from the mid century. i learned alot about southern hospitality even though i am southern. the management was an avid fan of the place since he was a child and when he got the chance he bought it and kept it just like it was supposed to be. the good and the bad about this place is that it was one of the best places ive ever had the chance to work and the worst part is i couldnt stay as long as i would have liked to

Pros

free food, great coworkers

Cons

the pay
