The hiring process to become a bus operator for the MBTA I signed up for the lottery back in March of 2017 I then was assigned a lottery number in September in 2017 several months went by then i got an email telling me that my lottery number was at the top of the list and to come in for testing that was on February 8 2018 so i was there for 4 hours just for testing the wait was more for getting people checked in the test itself only took 25 minuets at the end of April i got an email saying congratulations i took the 1st step in the hiring process by passing the written test also in the email it said to get an interview i had to submit my driving record so i did a few hours later i got a call from the HR department setting me up for an interview on May 8 2018. the interview went very well they asked me a few questions about customer service and how i would handle certain situations. before i left i asked so whats the next steps in the hiring process she said i'm going to extend an offer i was so excited i gave her my drivers licences and filled out an application and a form so that my CORI can be checked and was told that i will receive an email to go for an work assessment on May 17 2018 i had to go and see if i can do basic things like lift a fire extinguisher reach the mirrors on the side on the bus etc. My next thing i had to achieve was getting my CDL learners permit so i then emailed a copy of my CDL permit a week later i got a call to set up an appointment to do a physical drug and alcohol test i was told i passed the alcohol and physical i had to wait a week to see if i passed the drug test i did so on June 29th i got the call saying congratulations will i be able to start my orientation on Monday July 9th i said yes then i revived an email with instructions on where to go and the time to arrive what to bring and what to wear. So that's my story and yes it was long i honestly forgot about it was it worth it ? i guess we have to wait an see.

They would need to come in on time...meaning 15 minutes before your start time. Try not to call out of work as much because the attendance policy is very strict.

There were days when wanted to see certain customers or riders because I knew they would appreciate my ability to get them to work and home safe and sound. Ive often waited for passengers that I knew should be at a stop but weren't and with winter being so harsh most appreciated it. A smile from a passenger that waited in the cold for a bus can go a long way.
