My worst experience as an employee in my career. This the current management and culture breeds a poisonous atmosphere. Plainview site manager has a chip on his shoulder and is constantly under audit by AT&T. This presents real pressure which trickles down to low level employees.
Was forced to take jobs under unsanitary conditions. Not paid unless job was closed, even if circumstances were beyond techs control, (no line of site, customer cancels, equipment for work order not provided, incorrect work order etc.) No pay for travel time. Weekly mandatory morning meetings at 6am in Plainview, (I had to leave my house before 5am.)
Service calls pay 25.00 (gross) regardless of distance traveled. No choice of jobs. Must work in heavy down pours. Because pay is piece rate Mgr nit picks jobs for excuse not to pay workers. I worked full time and netted a little over 10k for 2007.
*COMPANY OUTSOURCES TO TRAVEL TECHS from upstate NY to South Carolina so they can pay less and treat employees poorly, then tells full time techs "there's not enough work."
Extremely high turnover rate among all employees. I worked there 10 months and everyone I trained with quit within the first week of being in the field. Trainers all quit within time I was there. Supervisor was let go Dec first. I was then let go a week before Christmas. :-)
If I can help one person this is worth posting. Do not work here. Ask anyone who's been there after training. MasTec sucks!
Slave labor. Get paid by jobs completed but wants the wiring and everything to perfect. If the previous tech did a bad job, guess who has to spend 4 hours fixing his mistakes for $23. Dispatch is terrible, will send you to a job 80 minutes away for a service call ten bacn 50 minutes just to send you back to where u were previously. Managers are a joke they pretend to be your friend and shake your hand but as soon as you walk away will call you names and the other managers will follow through laughing like a pack of hyenas. (worked in office after injury and seen it happen countless times)
It suck .. everything is your fault.. from the truck braking down to customers cancelling there appointment. .management blames the techs for lack of work .. they act like your friend but talk behind your back .. have to fight for your vacation days ...
The techs are great. I've worked in Georgia, North Carolina, and all over South Carolina except the Columbia/Spartanburg/Greenville areas. The management was always pretty unresponsive. They're literally just there for a paycheck, and if you give them one reason to be on their radar, they won't back off until you end up fired. Numerous techs told me that, and it happened. Stick to asking techs for help, if you need boxes or remotes, trade out with other techs. Try to be as invisible as possible to your supervisors.
MastecAT is a contracted fulfillment company for ATT/DTV. Mastec AT management keeps a wall up between themselves and the technicians they hire. Techs are treated like sub-partners. Pay is piece meal rate, and sometimes when there isn't enough work for the DMA, your paycheck can go below the state level minimum hourly rate.
There was freedom to be creative and drive a strong culture and positive work environment

It's very fast paced. Everyone wants to get home and they don't need anyone slowing them down. They have patience for newbies. Just don't expect their patience to last forever.

The work environment is tech centric placing a high emphasis on culture and morale seeing employees as MasTec's chief investment. One must understand that the type of work is certainly performanced based which isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you are able to perform efficient high quality work as an ethical standard, then the job is a breeze. However, if you are unmotivated or not able to perform at minimum expectations executing details of the job -then you're not going to succeed. Not every job is right for every person. However, for those who are excited about culture and growth opportunities - and are able to constantly expand their knowledge base- then AT is the place for you!!
Its just like high school , childish man children and teachers that hate their jobs , have their favorites, and have to compete with social statuses instead of quality of work.
Pretty much its is abusive and the managers made you feel worthless.
