Fast paced and great for learning
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - Jacksonville, FL - September 28, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe education at Mayo is the best ; however, patient load and expectations were difficult to keep up. The pressure of being an acute care nurse is hard regardless. Mayo was great.

I hated my job.
Sterilizing processing technician (Former Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 28, 2023
Working as a sterilizing processing tech has made me realize how messed up and difficult some jobs are. We were belittled and pushed to the side by most management. We were always told to help others but no one ever helps us in return.
Cons
Heavy judgement against you. No one helps

Great place to work
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (Current Employee) - La Crosse, WI - September 27, 2023
I love working for Mayo Clinic. Leadership is great and they keep you informed on any changes that happen at the company. Pay is fair compared to the area.

Toxic Environment
Environmental Services (Former Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - September 25, 2023
The EVS management was toxic and unprofessional. They had their favorites and no communication or “constructive” criticism. They lack proper training and leadership. No cohesiveness between dayshift and evening shift.
Pros
Pension
Cons
Understaffed, Poor management

Good workplace
RN (Current Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 22, 2023
Mayo has been a nice place to work in my time there. Lots of room for involvement, whether it be as helping out on unit council or volunteering as a preceptor.

Contradictory
Desk Operations Specialist (Former Employee) - Jacksonville, FL - September 20, 2023
Typical day starts like any other day, I was in scheduling and all I did was schedule appointments, check patients in and out. I learned how to use Epic EHR system and schedule appointments Management is dry and is unsympathetic to any situation you may have. I was injured with a bad ankle sprain and though I worked in ortho was given no assistance or grace for anything, forced to walk from the employee parking and either wait for a shuttle or hobble to my desk and dock you for being a second over. Very discriminatory regarding patient care which you will learn but no one does anything about it. Speak up and find out, why I’m writing this review. Culture is very washed and everything is a virtue signal on diversity and inclusion, making work political but tell you not to be political. Hardest part was deceiving the patients I served, mayo is not what it was sadly, it is what it is though. An example of what happens when a corp buys a mom and pop shop, they see green and a tax credit and milk it for what it’s worth lining the investors pockets with donation money. Best part was the people and non management staff. Miss all of them.
Pros
Good food, Good people
Cons
When you look behind the facade.

fake support
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Jacksonville, FL - September 19, 2023
The higher ups like to pretend to offer lots of help to nursing staff while not giving us what we need, staff retention. We were overwhelmed with 20 new grads starting on our floor at the same time. So if the nurses there were not already burned out, now add in a bunch of inexperienced nurses

If you don't value your mental/physical health, this job is for you!
Research Assistant (Former Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 18, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? There really isn't a good part. You are just a warm body to fill a space. And don't let life happen, because you will get in trouble. I did not get fired, I quit because it was costing me my health and sanity. Micro-management is a big part of working for Mayo. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Being micro-managed. Being told you have to do way more work in the same amount of time.(doing the work of 2 people without the compensation) What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very tense, no fun. This was not in a public setting either. No patient contact. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I would get in at 6 am, and start my usual routine. By 10 am I have 4-6 new assignments on top of all of my daily activities. All have to be done by EOD. And to top it off, the supervisor is checking in every hour to see what is done.

Stressful
Scheduling Specialist (Former Employee) - Scottsdale, AZ - September 16, 2023
Too much work not enough direction. Does not have needs of patient first. I worked there for 6 years and left the company with only making $2 more an hour.

Overall
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant (Former Employee) - Eau Claire, WI - September 13, 2023
I worked with a great team, was employed for just over 4 years. I left because i felt they were moving away from their motto the needs of the patient comes. It became more about power, money and policies.

Big company
Surgical Technician (Former Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 13, 2023
This is very large company with many different departments. There are a lot of opportunities. Parking is very difficult and the workplace is competitive. There is great service here and many highly intelligent people from all over the world work here.
Pros
Opportunity
Cons
Not very individualized

Relies heavily on their reputation...
Registered Nurse (RN) (Current Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 12, 2023
I want to preface this by saying I've worked and been a patient at several hospitals in the midwest...and Mayo really is no different from any of them. It's not a bad hospital, but I wouldn't consider them the "number one hospital." As an inpatient RN, I really feel Mayo just rests on it's laurels without doing any actual work for quality improvement. It frustrates me how much I know my patients are paying for suboptimal care. RN-to-patient ratios are just as bad as every other hospital, pay and benefits aren't that competitive, and management on my unit is poor. For a teaching hospital, there really aren't that many opportunites for learning and RNs aren't allowed to practice at the top of their scope.
Pros
coworkers, pension if you make it that long, opportunities to switch specialties
Cons
poor ratios, bad health insurance, bad management

Pay is just above average, but the quality is above all others.
Manager (Current Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - September 11, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Professional peers working together to provide excellent services. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Hiring individuals who do not rise to the challenge of putting the needs of others first. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Mutual respect among colleagues. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Busy but not chaotic. Quality above quantity is the expectation.

Great camaraderie
RN (Former Employee) - Rochester, MN - September 11, 2023
Good coordination of care by interdisciplinary team. The staff is dedicated to validating current patient experience yet is focused on achieving favorable patient outcomes.

Constantly Floating
RN (Current Employee) - Jacksonville - September 11, 2023
Depending on the floor you work on, you will be floated 75% of the time. Not a great foundation for new nurses. Some floors will start floating you from the start.
