It's a newspaper company so unless your contracting or in sales I wouldn't recommend this industry. They use a lot of outsourcing company's to cut down on cost.

The most likley to succeed
Technology Professional (Current Employee) –  Sacramento, CAJanuary 12, 2018
There is a lot of angst within the news publishing industry as to whether any organization can get back to a place of thriving local market dominance. If any company has a chance to succeed at this it is McClatchy.

Technology Systems Administrator II (Former Employee) –  Macon, GADecember 27, 2017
The position is outsourced. While the job existed it was a great job, with the ability to move up. With this position no longer in play, there is not that much to say about it.

This company used to feel like a family but no longer. With newspapers struggling, it has become a dog-eat-dog place with extreme stress for getting every dollar possible out of their customers without care for their experience.
Pros
good time off

I work with McClatchy Corporate
Confidential (Current Employee) –  ConfidentialOctober 18, 2017
Company is steeped in history and has a solid foundation in the Journalism industry. The changes that are happening within the company are being driven by the media industry and outside of the control of the leaders. Our leadership recognized the need to change with the culture and moved in the direction of a digital media company. Smart move as that is where the readership is going.
Pros
Get to be a part of a historical news provider with long standing community ties, and move into the new digital environment of today.
Cons
Only con would be 401k, need a match.

The one thing constant at McClatchy is change. The industry is constantly changing and so must the company. In the corporate offices, management trusts those they hire to do their work. As a result, I've been awarded with an incredible work-life balance.

Strategist (Current Employee) –  CaliforniaJune 13, 2017
A good work flow. Sales staff who do not always know what they are doing. Sales is always rewarded, yet support staff are ignored. Much of the time support staff drives the sale and the process of data collection and even presentation builds and client meetings. They need to do a better job of retaining the good employees.
Pros
Old business, established in community
Cons
Low pay, lack of advancement opportunities, no reward for hard work
