If you want fair pay, don't do it.
Customer service (Former Employee) –  Bend, ORApril 11, 2019
Very little pay for the amount of work. Cooks were paid more but the bartenders were still obligated to tip the cooks out of their tip jars (even though their hourly rate was significantly lower).

Good job to work for when going to school part time, very flexible. I worked at night and went to school in the morning. No benefits though unless you work fulltime.

CATERING CAPTAIN (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORFebruary 8, 2019
I like working here. It’s not my future goal, but it’s great while I am still in college. I don’t see myself here for 10+ years. But it’s fun to work here

Chef (Former Employee) –  Eugene, ORJanuary 3, 2019
Well run establishment with long term goals and thinking. Upper management was easy to work with and very inspiring. Art work and restoration of old properties turning them into Hospitality and retail ventures was an awesome concept. Very family oriented enjoyed my time there.

Evil management
Housekeeper (Former Employee) –  Anderson's schoolNovember 26, 2018
My direct manager was a delight but executive management was evil. Constantly looking for anything to ride you. Couldn't do anything right. Set you up for failure. Very uncomfortable working environment.
Pros
The director manager and supervisor was awesome
Cons
Executive management needs help and stresses the entire team consistently.

Server (Former Employee) –  Sherwood, OROctober 19, 2018
Typical day at work was doing dishes and cleaning when not serving tables, opening cleaning entire restaurant by myself. Management was a person on a computer that did not seem to do much managing of employees. Hardest part of the job is lack of space and working tools to do job efficiently.

Nice place to work with great ownership and human resource department. Benefits are incredible and employee retention is high. Most people work there for a minimum of ten years!

HOSTESS (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, WA 98661October 12, 2018
During the summer time the work environment is very fast paced, and you sometimes work 9 or 10 hour days, but then once October settles in most of the employees are cut.

Bartender/ Barista (Former Employee) –  Bend, OROctober 11, 2018
Overall my time at McMenamin's Old St. Francis location was enjoyable. It's like Disneyland for 21+, lots of great drinks and food. I had the privilege of working in a speakeasy bar, and I could have stayed there a while happily.

Management was poor
Bartender (Former Employee) –  Forest Grove, OROctober 9, 2018
The scheduling was really poorly done, people were working mostly 10-15 hour days then not knowing when to come back for over a week. Management also was bad at communicating between each other.

Mcmenamins review
Pub staff (Current Employee) –  Portland, OR 97201October 7, 2018
Overall McMenamins is a decent company to work with. Most of the staff is good. If you're looking for a company within the food/Hotel hospitality you can make a decent wage with possibilities to move up. The company provides many different positions and you can sometimes relocate too.
Pros
Decent wages depending on location, fun atmosphere
Cons
hours can very a lot at times, serving/tips can be cutthroat at times

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORSeptember 22, 2018
If you are a workaholic who can handle high levels of stress I recommend this job. They often have varying structures of management at each location so you never know how good of a team you’re going to get. Each location team is required to follow the same rules as the others but the management quality varies and consistency is not guaranteed.
Pros
Money. Staff friendliness. Eclectic company.
Cons
Overworked, under compensated.

Dishwasher/Busser (Former Employee) –  Beaverton, ORSeptember 11, 2018
I like the aesthetics the place the just sucks. Like who ever is managing the interior design is having a fun time. but just like any crowded pub it’s not a therapeutic environment to make a living.
Pros
Greasy food and beer

Pub Manager (Former Employee) –  McmenaminsAugust 3, 2018
Fast paced, always busy! You’re over staffed when it’s slow and understaffed when it’s busy. Unable to predict staffing levels. Good environment to work in, in between the times of stress. Good teamwork and good camaraderie. Meal tickets for shifts worked.
Pros
Meal credits, tips, atmosphere
Cons
Stressful

Fun company to work for. The owners were very friendly and knew most of the managers by name.
Being Head Manager required me to work a minimum of 45 hours a week which could be tough sometimes.

Fast paced working evironment with a supportive staff
Server (Former Employee) –  Forest Grove, ORJuly 17, 2018
A typical day at work is very busy, mostly during the summer months. Sometimes you will be running around like crazy trying to get orders from people and food and drinks to your tables. On the busiest days sometimes there is no winning with your customers and they will be somewhat disappointed mostly because Mcmenamins restaurants are not fast food restaurants and sometimes people expect that. Also it can be understaffed at times which makes it difficult to keep up with the flow of business.

Coworkers were enjoyable and the atmosphere with the property and the people made the work fun and interesting. Hot summer days were very difficult if you work outside, and that combined with the fast pace flow of business and overabundant amount of customers was probably the hardest part about the job. The most enjoyable parts of the job were the other employees and managers who were nice, understanding, and open to making the work as fun as possible, and the benefits that came with the job such as discounts on alcohol and other merchandise at the front desk and restaurants.
Pros
semi-free lunches, outdoor and indoor working areas, great staff, company discounts
Cons
sometimes stressful pace, sometimes short-staffed

A great opportunity for someone looking for work in food service
Server/Bartender (Current Employee) –  Portland, ORJuly 13, 2018
Every location is different, and there are over 60 locations in the company. Management, culture and hours vary wildly between locations, but the constants are the benefits, fringe benefits, and opportunity to advance within the company.
Pros
401k, healthcare, fringe benefits, opportunity to advance or move locations
Cons
irregular hours, nights and weekends
