The starting pay is $11 or $12 depending on past experience, which is terrible for the area. Managers consistently require employees to perform nearly impossible amounts of work. In parts of the store, Covid-19 sanitation does not get done at all, but employees sign off that it was done anyways. This is all but verbally encouraged by managers, as nothing happens if you report that people forge the logs.
Pros
Flexible schedule for part time
Cons
Bad pay, bad managers, lack of cleaning

They really believe in family first. I have a special needs child and was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep my job if I had too many family emergencies, but when an emergency arose, I was told to go and handle it but to keep my supervisor updated on the situation and that family comes first.
Pros
Great crew
Cons
Not having vacation time roll over

Jobs here are best for getting work experience to list on your resume, but not much else. The management can be either overbearing, or not there at all, sometimes somewhere in between.
Pros
Free lunches on Holidays
Cons
Self-centered upper management

They promote from within, pay good wages, and encourage you to grow with them. I usually work 40+ hours a week. I’m able to learn from the different departments within the store

Most of the people I've talked to aren't planning on staying, myself included. The pay sucks and the work is physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. Not to mention all of the pallets for receiving are not stacked according to the level of contamination per item. Finally, nearly all of the freezer items in bakery are just about stacked to the ceiling and are nearly impossible to get down and bake. DO NOT WORK HERE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!
Pros
Occasional free food, paid breaks
Cons
Exhausting work, low pay, rude customers, chronic understaffing

I loved working for meijer, my boss is outstanding during the pandemic
Unfortunately I had to quit. Had a emotional break down my boss was very understanding I felt I was taking to much time to grieve and it’s my fault I quit because during my grief I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes for success

#teammeijer all the way
Pros
Very understanding
Cons
I can’t think of any cons

I lived my job. My department had a closeness till the decided to get rid of our team leader. I was being trained for the responsibilities of a team leader and manager played favorites. And offered the position to someone else while I asked if I was still having the training that manager lied to me while playing favorites. They have a large turn o ver cause employees feel like a number. family atmosphere is gone

Meijer was the best job I have ever worked at! I worked there for 3 weeks and fell in love with my job! I worked in the deli making $11.15 an hour and got paid weekly! I was let go April 16 of this year due to my background but the HR department gave me a glowing recommendation! So I can have a letter of recommendation for my next job!

I love working at Meijer but some of the employees there make you feel unwanted in the work place. Also some of the leads play favorites and they let people get away with a lot.

Meijer claims that they are about the employees and advancement but whenever i tried to either transfer departments or ask to be made fulltime they used my 1 customer complaint to deny me also meijer likes to take their part time employees and make them work full time with out all of the benefits and then when it gets close to the amount of time that the union says Meijer has to make a part time employee full time meijer cuts back their hours so that they dont have to make them full-time and pay out the full-time benefits

im going to be brutally honest this isn’t the place to work they claim they are family orientated they are not they play favorites and unless you kissed your team leads butt you get what ever shifts they choose they don’t promoted fairly I was their since before it opened and new employees were promoted first the worse part was they cut your hours without telling you I left after being told I could get full time and never getting it

By greedy I mean they let me go for 8 months so they could get bonuses while I was doing a two-person job by myself and gave me bs every day about how little I got done even when the job is meant for two people. Not right!

I enjoyed working there when I did. It was your average department store job, though with better management. The management worked well in assisting me with my disability by finding jobs I was able to do.

Working retail is a soul-sucking and unrewarding experience to begin with. But Meijer abuses the bottom level employee with no chance of advancement, erratic hours that vary wildly week by week (so forget scheduling your life) and some of the lowest pay in the retail business. They also randomly change the employee contract without consulting the union or employees. Don't work here and get out while you can.

It's an ok job. Customers are the hardest part of the job, but if you can deal with that it's ok. People that work there are great but management sucks.

I spent two years with Meijers as a loyal employee, you get very little respect and job advanment is super convoluted and hard for absolutely no reason. I left cause my boss at the time bullied me till I ended up in the hospital for stress related reasons.
Pros
Hired on with Experience equals better pay.
Cons
Hired on with Experience equals hardship and no life.
