Great team, great hours, great pay!
House Cleaner (Current Employee) - Omaha, NE - June 29, 2023
Featured review
Merry Maids selected this as a representative reviewI really think this job has saved me. I used to struggle coming into work and keeping interested in previous jobs— but that has changed for me. I wake up eager for the day, and I’m happy while I’m working. I love that the job is at your own pace, I have never been given more work than what I can handle. When I am done with my houses for the day, I get to go home to my daughter. I get production pay (commission), which means I get a set percentage of the payroll for each house I clean— this allows me to also control how much money I make. The latest anybody will ever be working is around 4:30, which still has you home for dinner everyday. I am usually working alone and have the whole day to think to myself, I have really connected with myself from this job. The only con I really have with the job is putting miles on my car— they reimburse gas, but over the years it can put a toll on your car. Before I wrap up, I just want to note that management also does a great job of working with flexible schedules. I’m a mom of a young kid and it is so amazing having a supportive manager! So grateful for my job!

Official response from Merry Maids
July 14, 2023We are so happy to hear you think Merry Maids is a great place to work! We’re glad to see you have found positive aspects in your position, and the hours work well for your schedule. Thanks again for being part of the team and leaving a review.
Terrible Management
You work 8-5 and you get anywhere from 2-5 on average every day. You only get paid 20% of what the customer pays, the compensation is NOT worth the physical labor. The management is bad, they will blame anything and everything on you even if its a fault of their own. You get sick a lot due to cleaning people’s personal space and they are not understanding of that. The only good thing about working here is meeting people’s cute pets.
Pros
None
Cons
Terrible management

Residential Cleaner (Former Employee) - Urbana, IL - September 27, 2023
Look, it's cleaning, the job is what the job is. You go, you clean, you go home. The problems come in when you see how most every employee leaves very soon after arriving, you NEVER get a consistent amount of hours unless they're busy. And most of all, unless you do everything and say everything the exact way they think you should, they won't like you, and if they don't like you, they won't fire you, they'll just cut your hours, treat you disrespectfully, or just flat out ignore you and tell you they don't have work for you. Unless you just really need a job and wanna make sure you more than likely get hired, I would say keep looking.

Work here only if you want horrible pay and get treated poorly
House Cleaner (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - September 23, 2023
Do you want to waste your time?Do you want to be so stressed out, and treated poorly by management, well this is the place for you! Need to add more irritations to your life, this place has you covered! Wanna lose weight really fast, come on down, you'll get to work all of it off because more than half of the time you won't even have time to eat during work hours. Want to not get paid time off, well guess what, all of this is waiting for you, want to have all of you personal information spread to coworkers from the manager, well they have you covered there! Get poor training on chemicals, and basically create mustard gas, well don't you worry, it really clears your sinuses
Pros
Don't have to supply you're own cleaning products
Cons
Short breaks, no benefits, poor management

Ability to learn and advance
Operations Manager (Current Employee) - Chalfont, PA - September 19, 2023
I have worked for this company for some time. I started working as a cleaner and have worked my way to being an operations manager. They have given me the ability to learn and grow into a wonderful position of leadership and customer service. I am pushed just enough out of my comfort zone to help me grow professionally and personally. The hours are great and I love to meet new people and see new places.
Pros
No nights/weekends/ or holidays

Jobs at Merry Maids
Bad pay, no advancement
Home Cleaner (Former Employee) - Kansas - September 18, 2023
Each location is independently owned so there is no consistency. Your owner/boss could be great or awful. Pay sucks, bad training. No room for advancement. Loved my customers.

Run from it
Supervisor Merry Maid (Former Employee) - Escondido, CA - September 18, 2023
Not a place to work, no validation, respect. Management claims you can move up thru the company but is not true. They make you overwork and they time your work and drive time
Pros
Employee are nice
Cons
If you ever get a break is when you’re driving from place to place

The clients were usually great. They really reinforce teamwork.
Team Lead (Former Employee) - Spicewood, TX - September 17, 2023
A typical day would go like this; we get to the office and load supplies, get our paperwork of what houses we will be doing that day and who's in what teams, then we head out to our first client. When we arrive the lead gives direction of who will be "wet" and "dry". Wet is in charge of bathrooms, kitchen and mopping. Dry consists of dusting, vacuuming and helping with mopping. Once finished we would head to the next client, and so on. When you have all your houses done you head back to office to unload, clean equipment and put away, and turn in paperwork.
Pros
Team members, and meeting new people
Cons
Short and not enough breaks, time constraints

Management sucks.
Maid/Housekeeping Cleaner (Former Employee) - Scarborough, ME - September 13, 2023
For people looking to work here, don’t even consider it! Management has zero tolerance for the mistakes you make even when you’re training. They don’t care about you at all. They are here complaining about how they are short staffed when they treat don’t treat their employees well.

Terrible management, terrible employee turnover
Cleaning specialist (Former Employee) - Spokane, WA - September 9, 2023
The work is hard, extremely physical and not for anyone with any kind of health issues. Not great for single parents or those needing flexibility even though the ad says the opposite. Many were assured of flexibility at hiring and fired later for needing to adjust their hours for school or childcare. If manager doesn't like you, you get stuck with lower pay and harder jobs until you quit because it's too physically challenging. Overall a terrible place to work.

Supportive and fun workplace
House Cleaner (Former Employee) - Appleton, WI - September 8, 2023
Aside from the occasional office drama, the overall vibes are very supportive and the people are fun to work with and be around. Everyone has a positive attitude and works hard.

Never work here.
They promised full time. They said “expect Monday through Friday, 8am to about 4pm”. They said expect tips. They said expect a lot. They even had a sign-on bonus! Never saw it. NO, to ALL of it. You will be told to stay home (1-2 days a week on average from my experience and from what I’ve heard from others who have been there longer), you will usually be off by 1-2pm. You get “production pay” but even that adds up to nothing when you’re only cleaning 4-6 houses a day. And they won’t tell you that you aren’t working until either the evening before or the morning of, so you can’t even work a real second job around it. I was getting less than $300 a paycheck. And so were my peers, they said that was “pretty average”. They are constantly out of supplies, including things like knee pads and gloves. They don’t follow their own training module. Everything you learn on your first day from videos and whatnot is literally non-applicable. They complain about their turnover rate saying “people just don’t want to work hard”, or “it’s just too tough for them”. I PROMISE THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. It’s because people make less than $1,200 a month. That doesn’t even cover my rent, I don’t know about you. Everyone is disorganized and unprofessional (and every person there will laugh and joke about it because “that’s just how it is”). If you tell them a week in advance that you have to be off early, they will forget. If a CLIENT tells them they don’t need their house cleaned, they will still send you there because they forgot. I was literally hired and when I went to start my first day “they -
Pros
Free workout
Cons
Pay, management, low hours, last-minute cancellations of your schedule, lack of supplies, no/little PPE, disorganization, poor communication

Do not work here
Housekeeper (Former Employee) - Escondido, CA - September 3, 2023
Management is the worst, they over work you and underpay you. Stress you out for no reason. Manager has no consideration for anyone or anything. Company only cares about money. They treat employees like they are incapable of doing their job. Hardly any recognition to those who deserve it. Managers/office staff favor certain employees and treat everyone else like they don’t matter. Sometimes you don’t get a lunch due to all the work & you get in trouble & yelled at for things that are out of your control.
Cons
No breaks, no respect, no recognition
