Fun environment and great co-workers
Intern (Former Employee) –  Mars, PAMarch 12, 2018
The work environment was great and the co-workers were also great. Learned a lot and gained a lot of experience. The hardest part about the job would be working late nights, and also restraining the youth if needed.
Pros
Experience in my career field

Every day is a new adventure. You never know what you're walking into but the kids make it all worth it. The benefits are really good but the pay is average. The culture and people are awesome.

MHY is a great place to learn. There's a lot of internal promotions and room for growth. Staff support one another. Management acknowledges and appreciates hard work.

It was ok
Residential Advisor (Former Employee) –  Mars, PAJune 25, 2017
It was about as good as any residential program. Staff are friendly and supportive with a tight family bond among most of them. Management doesn't micromanage.

Short staffed and under paid.
Resident Assistant (Current Employee) –  Mars, PAMay 19, 2017
administration does not care about the residential staff whatsoever. they have no clue as to what we do in a daily basis! if you have your bachelor's you still only make 11 dollars. They expect you to do so much in a extremely stressful environment. I worked in the girls group home for a long time and finally was switched to another unit and still very stressful. management doesn't help. and neither does other staff. do not work here.
Pros
free meals, free parking
Cons
no breaks, very low pay

Great place, committed people
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  MHYSeptember 30, 2016
It's a tough and underfunded industry to work in, but for the most part MHY has great teams of people committed to its success. Nearly all of the benefits are paid for, and they include disability coverage, which is great for new moms who could be off work for a while. Meals are free, the company does some fun contests with employees and the kids both, and everyone tries to work together.

alternative high school for teenagers
Behavior Technician (Former Employee) –  Mars, PADecember 28, 2015
This school for teens was a good opportunity to assist teenagers in their development and divert students from hurting themselves or others. the upper management was out of touch with some of the issues that their students were facing such as the module of addiction.
Pros
support staff worked together as a team.

Special Education Teacher (Former Employee) –  Mars, PAJune 19, 2014
As a Special Education Teacher you were very busy. You had to have a balance between all of your roles and responsibilities. I loved the administration. I loved working with all my colleagues. I had flexible hours and a support system.
Pros

Don't bother
Residential Advisor (Current Employee) –  Mars, PAMarch 18, 2014
Management claims they care but never show you they do. Administration takes no note of what their staff have to go through daily and will accept kids that break the exclusionary policies. Administration also does not follow the employee policy handbook unless it's convenient for them. Understaffed, un-noticed. Benefits are great but no pay increases in years.

Very flexible hours but oncall 24/7
Adult Electronic Monitoring Specialist (Current Employee) –  Butler, PADecember 12, 2013
Having the ability to work from home is nice, but being the 24/7 on-call support is exhausting. A typical day is the office is very upbeat with an influx of phone calls (scheduling windows), hookups (individuals needing their gps device hooked up and activated), and discharges (people who have successfully completed their Court Ordered house arrest sentence). Having the ability to multi-task and be such an organized person has made my current position easier. I am in search of a career that enables a positive working environment and offers the ability to broaden my horizons.

Internship (Current Employee) –  Mars, PAJune 21, 2012
Intensive Community Monitors conduct home visits to juveniles who are placed on house arrest in lieu of placement and a state facility. While in the process of completing my internship I learned to how to activate, monitor, and disable electronic monitoring devices. Supervisors here are very approachable and have employees best interests in mind.
Pros
not stuck behind a desk or in the office all day.
Cons
always "working, " alerts on and phone calls from offenders can come at any time of the day or night.
