Micron is a company that focuses on the mission statement; all departments have a line-of-sight to company goals.
Research and Development Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Boise, IDDecember 3, 2018

Manufacturing Technician (Former Employee) –  Manassas, VADecember 2, 2018
Plant located in Manassas, VA. My was in the inspection of chip wafers. Twelve hour shifts were to long and poor management.

Moral was low and turnover was high. The workplace culture was not good. I learned I should acquire new endeavors.

IT is all about checkboxes and tickets
Systems Administrator (Current Employee) –  TXNovember 28, 2018
No interest in finding root cause of problems, or how pervasive the problem may be. No regard by IT of how activities performed by IT may adversely impact daily tasks of everyday users.

Lately micron is on some quota kick whereby management is REQUIRED to give 5% of direct reports a less than passing evaluation- whether they deserve it or not. Once given a less than passing grade, employees are then presented with two unappealing, motivation killing, options.

This quota for this year is 5%. Next year will be 7.5%

Work hard all year, only to find out the last week of the review period you have been selected to be part of the 5% quota - even if you have received stellar reviews for the previous 25 years.
Pros
it's a job
Cons
deceitful management (not just IT)

Technician Level 2
Technician (Current Employee) –  Boise, IDNovember 27, 2018
Day: 12 hours of troubleshooting. Expect each day to be different and demand different skills.

Learned: Integrated Systems/Chemical Handling. You will become versed in most work sets and if you can comfortably work on a car then you have the right mind set to work on the equipment.

Management: Good nature on the bottom, irregular on the top, and stake holders are held dear on the top. Don't expect favors or emphasis on employees. They are tightening the reins on the community which is shifting how the people react. A lot of reactionary changes happen and seem loosely thought out.

Culture: Techs are close knit community and will help each other out. Laziness gets rooted out pretty quickly as each person is needed.
Expect it too be almost solely OJT with another person.

Hardest part of the job: No tech manuals or schematics. A lot of tribal knowledge happens.

Enjoyable part of the job: No tech manuals or schematics. You'll be using your head a lot along with your hands to figure out why certain chemical residues happens and how best to deal with it one hour or the next fix a turbo.
Pros
Excellent benefits, Techs have 3/4 day weekends
Cons
12 hour work days, erratic management, unclear technician advancement goals.

MANUFACTURING TECHNICIAN II (Former Employee) –  Boise, IDNovember 27, 2018
I would have never left Micron if I didn't have to. Unfortunately my job was transferred to Taiwan so my entire department was forced to find new jobs or take a severance package. I loved working for Micron although the job security was tough. In my almost 4 years of working there I witnessed 6 layoff periods and then the department transfer. It was tough to constantly go through or be nervous if you would have a job or not during the next layoff.
Pros

Cons
Pay, Layoffs

Used to be fun but has become a toxic environment to work in.
IT Software Engineer (Current Employee) –  Boise, IDNovember 27, 2018
Flexible work hours but plan on being required to attend late night / early morning online meetings and be on call 24/7.

Typical day starts with early morning meetings.

then some sort of agile standup that can to for over an hour.

Lunch if you have time, we do have ping pong tables and game rooms but very little time to use them.

I normally leave work early but have after hour meetings and support calls during the night and weekends.

Third shift worked 4 10s. Was a good gig until the company sold and new management was horrible. They will tell you there is room for advancement but there is none.

Professional Staff
Professional Staff Member (Current Employee) –  Manassas, VANovember 26, 2018
Overall, bad work experience. This is a toxic work experience. If you have new ideas and stand out, be fearful. You are viewed as aggressive. There is no diversity and overall, there are bullies in management. I did not learn or grow and will be out in 2019 as soon as I find another job. The benefits are good and pay. The company culture does not provide work life balance although there is a policy for it. If you are an intern seeking experience, this is the place to come and then leave and work for another tech company.
Pros
great benefits and pay
Cons
politics, poor morale, bully and lacks diversity in sr. manager roles

Good company to work for (based on previous upper management)
Shift Engineer (Former Employee) –  Boise, IDNovember 25, 2018
My experience with Micron was very good as a long time employee. This was a company that started in Boise, Idaho and expanded world-wide. It was a good company to work for, but involved a strong commitment from it's people. I do not have any information on the current state of Micron after the change in upper management around 2017.

Associate Manufacturing Technician (Current Employee) –  Boise, IDNovember 19, 2018
Management preaches that the people are important but practices the opposite. They set the workers up to cut each others throats with their new "bell curve" review rating system. They have no touch of reality.

The above states the meat and potatoes of what an employee needs.
It was an amazing place to work, except for the constant possibility of being laid off. Which happened, they chose the pacific realm for cheap labor.

Favoritism, nepotism
SEM tech (Current Employee) –  Manassas VirginiaNovember 12, 2018
Employee ratings are rigged for the sake of company profits. It's not how hard you work, what's your skill level is, or your potential but who you know. Favoritism and nepotism run rampid there.
Pros
Great people work there and very multicultural.
Cons
Raises and promotions are rare. High pressure

Technical Team Lead Intigration Engineer (Current Employee) –  Longmont, CONovember 8, 2018
I have not recieved any training to do my work. What I've learned I've done on my own. Micron management doesn't support the employee when abnormal situations occur. The employee is on their own in meetings with hire level management
