Wonderful under different management
Mingus Mountain Academy is a wonderful employer that does amazing things for their clients. The staff culture offers comraderie and competition. The entire program is based on being open to conversations and feedback and it's ironic to see management preaching those values while not having them themselves. Would love to come back under a different program director.

Unorganized, disrespectful and unethical
This place has very high turnover because of its lack of structure and supervisor/managers being very rude, disrespectful and unhelpful. A few months back the principal, vice principal and five or six teachers all left at the same time... what does that tell you? Now there is a new principal who really doesn't know what he's doing, pretends that he does, won't take responsibility for his mistakes, is unethical and acts like he's got something to prove.
After your hired you'll be given one week orientation where you'll think wow this is great , haha.. then your first week of work will start and you'll see that you have no help at all and nobody will take the time to really teach you anything. They will act like you're an idiot if you don't know what's going on while throwing you into one situation after the other with no support or assistance. You'll do your very best to do your very best and then people will come along and tell you how you're not doing your best and will rudely ask why are you doing this or that...when all you had you had to go on was your own instinct since nobody would teach you. You will never be praised given a compliment. On any given day you won't know who's in charge and then you will be told one thing by one supervisor and another thing by another and treated badly by all. There are no breaks including lunch as you eat while you're supervising the kids. On top of treating the employees like crud they also don't truly care about the girls that attend, it's all about the money, as I've seen with restraints being brought on by taunting to keep the

Wouldn't reccomend
They promise you on night shift that you will work 4 ten hour days however they can never keep enough staff so they will schedule you to work sometimes almost 2 weeks straight with only one day off then they will work you one or two days and give you one or two off and there is no set pattern at all. It is a fairly tough schedule to work if you have family or a life outside of work

Make money at any cost
The worst management team I have ever seen. It is not about helping kids although that is the false message being spewed to any fool with ears. It's a burn your buddy lie and make money culture. Education is not a priority nor is staff safety or therapeutic treatment of students. It blowes my mind there is no accountability for how the operation runs. Money rules.

Do NOT work here!!!
This can be a very rewarding job and has good pay with unlimited overtime but their tactics with the clients are way too aggressive and with an accusation there is no investigation they just take one sided stories and so good employees are being ran out by accusations from the bad ones. There is absolutely no work/life balance so if you have a family or kids or want a social life this job is NOT for you. Also there is little to NO support from upper management so work is stressful and you pretty much have no voice. The commute is terrible on your vehicle. However with all that being said the clients really need somebody to depend on so I think if some things change (management) then it has the potential to be a great place but right now it’s not.

The students attitude was fine, but the staffs attitudes are rude.if your not high up on the chain there you get treated like poorly. They don’t care about your personal life. They will work you to death if they could and never give you and compliments on your work.

Do not work there
I was there for 12 years and was accused of something I didn’t do. Management culture is horrible. They are only about money and do not care about loyalty.

Poor and damaging work environment
It is very cliquish and backstabbing the management teams struggle with the consistency of training they do not put enough focus on the basic needs of the clients. there is a very bias perspective and treat the staff like they do not matter, they force people to work on their days off and if you call in sick they make life miserable by guilting the person, they do not follow the Joint commission regulations, the school has become a place that lacks teachers. Avoid working here if you can, it has become a very violent place to work and the staff is in danger most of the time.

Stressful, unsupportive, and dangerous environment
Everything is the opposite of what you expect. The environment is hostile, stressful, and unsupportive by administration. The pay and stress does not compensate for the work that you have to do.

Fulfilling work but...
You cannot live on the pay. You're starting at $13.50 for no experience. This is not living wage and it's hard to swallow considering the working conditions you're placed in... extreme stress, under staffed, no breaks (and I mean NO breaks, it's hard to even get a bathroom break). You're eating with the girls, and if something happens, there goes your food.

The senior staff are very cliquish and don't really associate with the new staff. I worked on dorms where the senior staff didn't acknowledge me the entire shift.

The girls are challenging but it IS rewarding work. However, the low pay and general treatment make it hard to stay in this line of work.

A great job if you dont have a social life
Working with the clients at mingus was fun but hard. Often times you deal with clients having violent outbursts combined with a fast paced and stressful environment. HOWEVER, working with these clients is very wholesome and satisfying. These clients are going through recovery and it is your job to be there for them. Although it is a stressful and demanding job, the rewards are great. Not a job for everyone. You need a strong moral compass, a good sense of self and an even greater sense of how to stay calm in the face of stress. I recommend mingus to anyone who is pursuing a job as a BHT but be careful, you often work many more than 40 hours a week. Not because you're asked to, but because once you develop a strong personal connection with your clients, its hard not to stay and help whenever and wherever you're needed.

Good workplace if you don't care about the money
It's a good place to work for the most part. The clients there are great, but the management doesn't seem to care about their employees and their mental or physical health. You're expected to work all the time no matter your condition or you're made to feel like you're a child being scolded. Beautiful scenery and you can come to care for the clients there, but not very good team play as far as employees and managers go.
Pros
Overtime, good clients, good health benefits
Cons
No breaks, poor management, no life outside work, not paid enough

Mingus Mountain Academy was a good place and some people are there to help. Yet their tactics on how to help are pretty ruthless and aggressive. The management same thing good and bad. Don't pay enough to what the ask of you.

Productive, fun, and collaborative environment
Highly recommend working here. First of all, the work is very rewarding- you are literally helping teenage girls on the road to a healthy and productive life no matter what your position.

Everyone who works there seems to enjoy their job, and those who don’t are not around very long. A lot of long time (5,10,20+ Year) employees, which is proof of how great of a company it is. All of the directors have an open door policy and feedback is encouraged for all employees. Not position is less important than another and all opinions are listened to.

The job can get stressful at times, simply because of the nature of the job. But the overall work environment is very fun and collaborative so it makes it enjoyable.
Pros
Free meals when working, very collaborative work environment
Cons
Healthcare can be expensive, pay could be better
