Leadership needed more training on certain fields

At Moderna everything was a challenge, they don't understand my technical things that needed attention. Even after presenting detailed reports to follow path A they always opted for path B. Working in an environment where saying the truth could get you in big trouble is frustrating. I was able to play their game but in the end, the results that I wanted to provide were not there because of their hidden agenda. I felt like someone inside wanted to sabotage the organization. The principal of Moderna is awesome, but the leadership team didn't transmit clarity.

Meet the Deadline at any cost

Upper management sets arbitrary deadlines that will be met at any cost, regardless of whether or not what is delivered will actually work or meet the need. They work the project backwards by deciding when it should be due and then proceeding to figure out how to cram it in the allotted time, at the sacrifice of your personal time and life. They will tout moving at Moderna speed as a positive thing when in reality, it's a huge drawback. It's a fancy way of saying speed matters more than good quality solutions. This creates an incredibly frustrating environment that is burning people out quite efficiently

Pay tends to be rather good and they have lots of perks to try to get people to stay

Moderna offers excellent benefits. There is plenty to learn and there is ample upward and lateral mobility. The volume of work is ceaseless which delivers opposite for OT and additional responsibilities.

Great company but poor job security

I enjoyed my position and the company. The people are fun to be around. It was just upset when I had less than a week to prepare and find a new job. Over half of the company was laid off in 2023.

Exceptional promise, no resources to succeed

The company’s platform holds incredible promise, but it’s still has the minimal infrastructure of a small biotech with the expectations and requirements of a huge pharma company. They say “they’re building the plane while flying”, but no one has tools or parts to work with!

What is the best part of working at the company?Too many vendors and the no one seems to be leading the company.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?As a contractor they don't give you access to any applications. Everything is web based and you can't keep up with files.

Great starting point but they will try to keep you on contract for the longest time, very little recognition. The full timers like to sit on their phones and watch you work while they make a ton of money in bonuses and benefits. If you have previous experience you are better off somewhere else.

This is a very exciting company to work for. The pipeline has so much potential. I am proud to be a part of the science and possibilities. That being said management is horrific. There is no structure or planning. Everything is just pushed whether it makes sense or not. No work life balance and there is a culture of fear and shame into doing more all the time. Would not recommend. However, the pay and benefits are outstanding. Still so much turnover when most people get a sense of how things work, they end up leaving.

big career mistake

Read the reviews online. They are telling the truth. Moderna has the chance to be so much more, but there is a reason why turnover is high at all levels. If you join, have an exit plan. This company survives off of burning its employees out, make rapid decisions without thinking them through, everything is a priority, and every day feels chaotic. Run, run, run away.

management was very poor

I didn't really enjoy my time there. the management was bad and my concerns were very rarely taken care of. During the interview, i was told that there would be a contract to perm opportunity but that wasn't really the case.

Poor Work/Life Balance
