The culture is student-focused. Students are asked to be involved in many different matters the university is engaged in (i.e. hiring of the chancellor, student tuition/fee increases, committees, etc.). Most often people get along and workgroups are open to suggestions about the best approach to solving problems. The environment is one geared toward learning, but as is the case with many institutions, the rise of "political correctness" is debilitating and a fear-based tool that is preventing the true purpose of universities and colleges from reigning–academic freedom.
