A relaxing ,happy, hard working day.Every day I learned something new in the trade I do and try to get better every day.I worked closely with management so we have a productive day.You have to respect and be a good example for them to fallow. If the necessary materials for the job is not available that makes it a little tough. The most enjoyable part of the job is when I fix the problem and every one is happy.

Pros

benfits, vacation

Cons

no health care

Stay away from Montgomery County Department of Recreation

Working at the Department of Recreation presents a challenging environment due to prevalent favoritism and nepotism. There appears to be a concerning trend of hostility towards new female employees, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere for newcomers. It is evident that a significant number of employees have remained in the same positions for over 25 years, surpassing the retirement age, hindering opportunities for fresh talent to contribute. The resistance to change and improvement, particularly from the Director and Human Resources, is detrimental to the department's progress. Essential reforms, including the recruitment of additional staff and the conversion of temporary/seasonal roles into permanent positions, have been met with opposition, particularly regarding the payment of overtime to non-career staff. This reluctance to accommodate necessary changes raises concerns about the department's commitment to its employees' well-being.The lack of fair compensation, especially concerning overtime for non-permanent staff, is a significant concern. Instances where employees are required to work late, without proper compensation, further exacerbate the issue. Moreover, the inadequacy of managerial staff, notably their limited experience in personnel management and emotional intelligence, has contributed to the exodus of dedicated employees who had been with the Department for significant periods. Notably, a considerable turnover rate has resulted in a stark divide between relatively new employees and long-standing personnel, posing a potential challenge for cohesive team dynamics. -

Great place to work

Loved this job as basically every day was different. I had great managers and worked with some fabulous judges. Hated when I had to resign due to moving out of state.

Bittersweet. It has its upside & its downside.

What is the best part of working at the company? For myself, the camaraderie I developed with several of my coworkers over the years & I actually liked the customers. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? It really wasn't that stressful. The job is very easy specifically if 1 has the personality for it. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Way to political or clique-ish for me. Upward mobility is hard enough but when you start to notice that either family &/or friends get 1st dibs on promotions then whatever is left over might hopefully fall to those that actually deserve it. What is a typical day like for you at the company? It depends on what position 1 holds

Good team

Good team to work for. No complaints about my time there. Strong technical people are in place. Remote work for the role I had so I only went to office once.

Great Benefits/Union - Horrible Management

Unfortunately, I regret my time at the Dept. of Permitting Services. Management needs to change and improve if you want to retain employees. There needs to be better training for new technicians and a clear road map to advance/or promotion. The entry salary honestly is not enough or competitive. Also, please respect your new and existing employees - they deserve better.

Pros

Benefits - Health, Vision, and Dental. Retirement - Matching. Union Support

Cons

Management. No Remote. Poor Training. Lack of Opportunities

The mission of helping children and families.

I love the work because the organization is genuinely all about helping children and families. The downfall is, the compensation does not match the responsibilities they put on my plate.

Pros

Great people to work with and great benefits.

Cons

Compensation does not match the workload.

5 years of work at the Government

Pay has been pretty good in recent years, from what I have been told at one point it wasn't. Time off is great. Union environment. Crew chiefs are the direct supervisors of union mechanics fixing buses and other things, so they tend to be the ones who catch some grief from time to time. Typical government issues, but overall, a good place to work. Not sure if I would recommend being a crew chief over getting a job as a mechanic here.

Pros

Good compensation, time off, work product is good overall.

Cons

Politics and buddy systems

County Government Policies are a Disaster

Woke, socialist government policies have ruined what once was a nice place to work. I strongly urge all citizens living here and individuals considering employment here to flee to safer areas in other states.

The government work ethic stereotype is true

Was a great place to work while children are young. Plenty of time off for family and the pay structure was great. Mentally I just couldn't not take it and left once my child was finishing HS. Previous manager, as with many their, got the position because they had put time in and were "next" for the role. They advertise they require certain credentials but that is glazed over with by who you know or how much time you have in. Mentally it is easy work. Don't expect to be challenged and if you try to work outside your specific role to grow expect to have your wings clipped quickly.

Pros

pay and time off

Cons

zero mental challenge and inept management.
