It's a great place to work

I loved working for Morton's and my only regret is that it ended way to soon. Well really that it ended at all. When I got this job I knew it was going to be the last I ever had. I was so excited. The days leading up to my intake was like waiting for Christmas morning. I was not let down. Management are great. Made sure that my first day on the job site I was set up to succeed. My forman was just outstanding. He had been with Morton for over 40 years. His knowledge was just mind-blowing. In short it was everything I had hoped it was and then some. The only problem was it ended and it should not have. I hope to fix that in the near future. Thank you Morton Buildings for showing me what a great career was like.

Pros

Everything

Cons

Being let go for something I did not do but a power crazy forman

Poor Upper Management

Upper Management at the area and regional level are both poor. Especially the Area Management. The only thing the Area Manager wanted was for no one to contact him. The goal was to have little, or no contact with anyone. If you did reach out it was treated like a real inconvenience. This person had no moral character, even within his own family. Regional Management was no better and you never, ever heard from him. I would not recommend this Company to anyone. In the end, all that matters to anyone is profit

Great Company/Needs Work

As this was done as an internship, I felt that the process of going through the summer should’ve been a little bit more variety of types of jobs within the company and not so much as being just a Laborer. I ended up being trained with third man on the crew. This person was more of whiner during the day, frustrated at times, however he trained really well. The thing I’d— listening to complaints day in and day out, make the days go long. I feel that the variety of work should’ve been part of the internship for learning, i.e. how sales are completed, learning how plans are developed and read, in rider to learn how Each aspect of Morton Building are done.

Pros

Training

Cons

Not enough variety for an intern.

A bunch of snitches

Boss was a coke head. People backstabbing one another to get ahead in the company. Pay was great and time off around Christmas and new years was awesome.

Everyday is an experience, some good some bad but a few are great

What is the best part of working at the company?A lot of the people are great to work with. Working in building 1 is said to be the gravy train work but working in building 3/4 is the best. The yard is definitely the toughest spot to work, not only because it’s always out in the elements but if you don’t fit in with the clique the other yard workers WILL make it rough on you. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Working in the yard, it’s always a rat race and no one knows what is going on… they lost an entire building once and questioned where it was 3 months after it was loaded on a trailer, it was found assembled on the customer’s property where it was supposed to be What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It’s a very laid back atmosphere. Lunch is 40 minutes unless you work 9+ hour days scheduled then it’s 45 minutes. If you want to try to make friends with everyone just ask to join the normal lunch break corn hole game even if you ain’t good they’ll coach you and help you improve What is a typical day like for you at the company?A typical day in building 4 is a process. Pre trip your lift, check in with the saw operator for your pick lists, gather the boards on the list, stack the boards 4 high on the forks of the lift and then load it on the live deck, and repeat. If the live deck is full you’re doing great! Anything picked when the live deck is full will go to a staging area(the location will change based on free space)

Overwhelming and under compensated.

What is the best part of working at the company? The ability to create my own schedule. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Corporate policy and the lack of leadership in local management. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Do as I say and don’t question the cubicles. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Much like any sales position. Setup leads and sales, then permit and project manage. Basically you run a franchise alone.

Productive but too much personal drama

Ok place to work, not great management. Culture of backstabbing everyone to get the spot you want. Looking for excuses to get other people fired so a position opens in the area you want is encouraged.

management

great company great product, lacks top management to help you along the way. its a great fit for someone that wants mediocrity in their job. I wish you luck

Gret place to work hard

Hard work is rewarded. Your bosses want to see you do well and move up in the company. Safety is a number one priority for this company. Pay is good and plenty of overtime.

Something new every day

Construction side of Morton is very different from the office side.New challenges and customers to meet almost every day. If you love physical labor, the elements and "rough around the edges" fun work then this is the job for you. Foreman are extremely under paid for the work load and stress but everyone else on a crew is very competitively paid. Kinda flexible unapproved time off but don't abuse it, requested pto is almost immediately approved...bad weather pay is a HUGE benefit and the PPE/TOOL options are great.

Pros

Working outside, new places or on the road

Cons

Elements, push for hours worked, foreman pay.

Few Resources and Little Direction

My interview consisted of vague questions like, "Are you good at excel?" .... compared to what? I started and the first day I was told, "Xyz and I aren't good at training so, you'll need to figure it out"... gave me completed spreadsheets and told me to figure out how the previous person made them. There was little to no direction. I asked questions and receive responses like, "Send this to xyz, they'll take care of it". I want to know the whats and whys of what I'm doing, so I know what the data is supposed to look like, not just blindly create reports. I'm sure it's different/better in a different department. Just bad management, not a bad company to work for. Benefits and work/life balance is exceptional. People are mostly friendly and willing to help where they can.

It was alright at first

It was alright at first but some people definitely get favored over others. It’s not really based on showing up to work and working hard but friendships. The culture is very judgemental. If you liked high school and the “cliques” work at that Morton buildings.

Productive and understanding

Very understanding. Started the job and soon in learned of health issue and as it passes there working with me great company. But grueling work. Wouldn’t say overtime is worth it don’t really see it after taxes

Poor management and little room for advancement

The work is quite easy, and the production rate is exceptionally low- although every employee wears multiple hats (inventory clerk, fork truck driver, maintenance, material handler, quality control). The management is hardly ever around to answer any questions you may have, and most of the time is unaware of the situation. The company is more concerned about the cleanliness of the facility, than how it operates. Antiquated equipment and outdated processes make working here actually harder than it needs to be.

Pros

Easy work

Cons

Short breaks, poor management, overall it's a farce

Toxic Leadership

Not worth working here. The Gettysburg plant has one of the highest turnover rates in the country as far as Morton Buildings goes. Their leadership is toxic and will ride you until you break. Complaining to HR does nothing, because no one can touch their foreman (who are literally the root of the problem). I won't miss this place in a million years, good riddance.
