NaphCare
Nurse Practitioner (Former Employee) –  Washington StateFebruary 11, 2019
The company contacted this provider to offer a Saturday position. During the application process, the full-time provider was terminated - walked off the property - information that was not shared with this applicant. Offered the full-time position but declined (this provider was currently employed part-time weekdays with another company) and accepted the initial offer of Saturday provider position. Four months later, on a Friday was called by HSA and informed that NaphCare is “going in a different direction” with regards to staffing Saturday providers and do not come in the following day. The lack of professionalism by the HSA is not surprising. This was the same unprofessional behavior exhibited by the NaphCare director of nursing for a Texas County Jail in 2007; the company contacted this new NP graduate to provide coverage while a physician assistant was on maternity leave. It is understood that employment can end with or without cause but there is a contractual 30 days notification and to be paid for the next 30 days is just not acceptable especially when this action directly affects patient care. Extremely disappointed that politics and exclusionary behavior (cliques) determines who is promoted, offered over time, and longevity of employment within the facility.
Pros
Weekend nurses are supportive, paid for taking call
Cons
Toxic Weekday Work Environment, Unprofessional, Inexperience, Poorly Trained Facility Administration Personnel

Stressful
Medical Scheduler (Former Employee) –  Vestavia Hills, ALJanuary 31, 2019
This place was one of the worst places I have ever had to work. The managers are a joke the staff is messy and if you're not messy or like to gossip, you will be considered an outsider. While working at this place I went from a happy and positive speaking person to a I can't wait to get away from here type of person.
Pros
Headphones could be used
Cons
So many nasty attitudes for no reason

EMT-B (Former Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVNovember 13, 2018
Management was not at all receptive towards ideas or criticism. Management treated employees differently based on how well they like the employees. The working environment is hostile and management made no attempts to send help when the workload became overwhelming.
Pros

I enjoy working at Naphcare in Henderson Nevada. The HSA and DON are very supporting and understanding but yet firm and allows co-workers to support the mission in a balanced way.
Pros
Free lunches, supportive crew, no hostile environment
Cons
The staff and management are very understanding and accommodating.

They seem to be very unstable.
LVN (Former Employee) –  Hanford CASeptember 3, 2018
There is way too much favoritism and goofing around and not enough nursing. There is too much personal issues and lots of disrespect. The nursing staff are spread very thin. Hopefully they can get it together.
Pros
They could be lots better with good positive leadership.
Cons
Little to no breaks. Expecting Nurse's to work outside their scope.

being treated like an inmate by custody
nurse (Current Employee) –  Tacoma, WASeptember 3, 2018
Custody is your customer not your patients.
Management sweeps issues under the rug, not resolve issues. Management makes rules they can't even abide by.
Correctional officers are just as abusive to the medical staff as they are to the inmates. Custody will use your nursing license to refuse medical care. Custody will not keep you safe.
No consistency at all. Every office- nurse has their own way of doing things. Rules are suggestions that certain people don't have to follow.
Get used to working with punitive nurses. Get used to orders that don't follow the five rights.
No safe parking.
Cafeteria serves nasty food.
Cons
No breaks, no consistency, no management.

Toxic work environment, catty, cliques, no room for personal growth.
Emergency Medical Technician (Former Employee) –  Reno, NVJuly 28, 2018
As excited as I was to start working with Naphcare, I was incredibly disappointed with the company. Inadequate training resulted in multiple deaths within the facility. Lack of recognition, promotions, pay raises resulted in poor employee performance. Management was less interested in encouraging employee development, and more interested in gossip and vacation time.

Extremely high rate of employee turnover.

Several instances of "bending the law" in order to cut costs.

Working with Naphcare was like working with a group of hormonal high school girls. Everyone is truly nasty to each other, to the inmates, and to law enforcement officers. Naphcare staff were sleeping with inmates and detention officers, in at least one instance resulting in pregnancy.
Cons
Unprofessional, no room for personal growth, lack of training

I gave medication to the inmates and guarded by a officer.
Licensed Practical Nurse (Former Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVJuly 18, 2018
I passed medications to 500-600 inmates per day, guarded by a officer. I preformed treatment as ordered by the physician,
I felt save as long a an officer was with med during medication pass.

Toxic Work Environment and no room for growth.
Medical Records Clerk (Current Employee) –  Birmingham, ALJuly 14, 2018
Workload comes in ebbs and flows. Training was insufficient and team leaders do not build good relationships with new employees. Management turns a blind eye to the office gossip. The issues employees have within their department and communication with other departments is repetitious. No resolution is ever really reached. The hardest part of the job is to be able to function in a toxic work environment while trying to meet your daily work deadline. The most enjoyable part of the job is the contact with the outside public by phone and getting each task accomplished at the end of the day.
Pros
Excellent health insurance and benefits
Cons
No opportunity for advancement; work environment

Just a Cog in Their Machine!
DIRECTOR OF NURSING (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAJuly 13, 2018
NaphCare will promote within but they will overwork you to the death. Promise you one thing then deliver the opposite. Big corporate where you are just a cog in their machine, cog breaks and they replace you regardless of skills. More about a warm body than quality.

Poor place of employment
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Former Employee) –  Kennewick, WAJuly 13, 2018
Inconsistent management. Staff shortages. Frequent staff turnover to include management. Poor benefits. Insufficient training. This is a high stress environment working in a correctional facility. The stress of working with inmates is more overshadowed by the stress of the expectations of the job.
Pros
The officers are great to work with.
Cons
You will not receive any support from management.

Great Place to learn but Corrections has to be for you.
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) (Current Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVJune 21, 2018
This is a great environment if you want to learn. There are many things medically that come through the door. There are times that we can run just like a busy ER to mundane day to day things. You cant be thin skinned to be in this environment by but I feel everyone works great together. There is not a lot of staff to begin with so you have to help each other. I have never felt unsafe here ever officers are great about making sure nursing is safe. Inmates overall are thankful for the care. Dont get me wrong there are those that are the exception. So in all dont think you would be loosing skills coming here instead of a hosptial. No matter where you go you will never get to see and experience everything but Ive seen learned a lot here. Way more than ever imagined. Bonus everyone is willing to help new nurses without that nurse eat their own attitude. Very thankful.
Pros
Great learning environment

Parking, cafeteria, pay compared to city average

Correctional Charge Nurse (Former Employee) –  Portsmouth, VA 23701June 20, 2018
I worked for Naphcare in a correctional facility and they were more concerned about budget and cost of ace bandage wraps than patient outcomes. Every meeting was focused on cost.

Inmates are more trustworthy than the management
Healthcare worker (Former Employee) –  Spokane, washingtonJune 18, 2018
Very low morale because if you speak up about management in regards to patient care they will retaliate. No job security. People walk around not talking to each other because they fear they will get fired. Micro-managed, bullying environment.
Pros
Good co-workers
Cons
Shady management, low morale, people scared to talk or laugh about anything.Spirit of fear around the facility due to management.
