Hot, Dirty, Operator Equipment Attention lacking, Unskilled Management
Employee (Former Employee) – Niles, MI – May 9, 2016
Worked in Niles Lake Street plant for a short period of time, under a very young, green plant manager who was trying his best to turn around the poor maintenance practices and operator attention to breakdowns of aging equipment, where operators read newspapers while their machines sat broken down, and couldn't pick up the phone to call maintenance.
Very unsafe plant, where you could be severely injured or killed by almost any operating lines. Breathing soap dust caused many a lung condition, along with the constant filth present and inches deep on the machinery and the employees.......
There were some good people there, but their efforts were overshadowed by the constant inattention of the union employees, which accounted for horrendous downtime and scrap.
Caterpiller threatened to pull their orders due to poor quality and missed deliveries!
Very happy to leave that atmosphere - worse than an old time foundry!
MIOSHA would have a field day there!
