Aerospace Engineer (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CAFebruary 28, 2019
This was my first job as a professional engineer and their way of management is stuck in the past. People acted like if they were showing to work only to received a paycheck. You are just seating in front of the computer all day. Very slow-paced. This is was not a place that will push you to the limits and give the best of you. People is nice and work environment is not stressfull at all.
Pros
overtime hours are optional; relax
Cons
desk job and slow-paced

Excellent facilities, great management. The work, due to it's nature can be stressful. The commute can be brutal due to distance / traffic.

The Supervisors are very open to the employees.

Echoing others...Jacksonville is terrible
Aerospace Engineer (Former Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLSeptember 20, 2018
4.3 Engineering in Jacksonville is operating under terrible management. They treat employees like expendable trash. Get ready to feel unappreciated and work towards moving goalposts. Management pre-selects their favorites for promotion and they give you performance scores based on how much they like you (actually called "smart trust"). Do not work here unless you are a yes-man and are ready to keep your opinions to yourself.
Pros
Benefits, paid time off
Cons
Management, lack of advancement

Logistics Management Specialist (Current Employee) –  Patuxent River, MDMay 17, 2018
The raises come annually until you reach full potential performance general scale 7 to general scale 12. This is a great internship program lasting 3 years. They take great care of their people. Highly recommend if you are okay with the immediate area. Unfortunately, work life balance is a bit difficult due to being in a rural setting. Great place to raise a family if you have one.

Working for NAVAIR is a fulfilling job and a great career path. We work compressed work schedules allowing us for every other Friday off. There is a great work life balance here and many benefits of working with the federal government.

Not a bad place to work at
NAWCAD Security Guard GS-5 Step 4 0085 (Current Employee) –  Patuxent River Naval Air Station, MDFebruary 21, 2018
Working at NAWCAD Security is perfect for getting your foot in the door to a federal job position and a job for retirees. Management is not too bad as long as you mind your P's and Q's the whole nine. You get all of the perks of being a federal employee however, you start as a GS-4 and you can only advance to GS-5. That paycheck does not pay enough to raise a family or let alone start one in the Southern MD and DC Area. That is my only complaint, overall the job is pretty good.
Pros
Benefits, 401K, Perfect Work/Life Balance, Job Security
Cons
Limited and No Career Advancement, Not enough pay to raise a family

Electrical engineer (Former Employee) –  Tall Timbers, MDFebruary 10, 2018
Good work/life balance. Slower paced than up near the beltway/DC. Lots of politics though. Not so much technical expertise or in-house development of anything. Dahlgren engineers were more technically competent and you learn more there. More suits at PAX.
Some competition for who is in what area. People are touchy about their domain, instead of collaborative and interested in the science and engineering. Not too bad, though.
But overall, yes, recommend.

work/life balance

politics

Large Age Gap
Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) –  MarylandJanuary 24, 2018
Most individuals are between 28-35 or 45-65. Very few young people and very few in between ages. The work can be daunting in Performance, so much to do
