A good stable job but low salary and no chance to advance.

Like most government positions, the jobs there are stable so you don't have to constantly worry about being laid off.
And the leave policy is very considerate. If you have to take time off for health care or even to take of a sick relative it's never questioned.
Unfortunately, salaries are 30 to 40% below industry levels and they try to trap you into a role for the rest of your career. It's almost impossible to advance unless you're friends with some of the managers despite the governments assertions that they don't allow favoritism.
The people are wonderful though, probably the best I've ever worked with. Most of the people there will stop what they're doing to help you.
The computer and networks are constantly going down and the IT department NMCI is worthless.
Training opportunities are non-existent so I pay out of my own pocket to take courses online.
The lower-level managers are usually very easy going and won't micromanage you. They're usually wise enough to leave you alone unless you're a total slacker and need to be motivated.
Good stable job. Positive people.
Very low salary & no possibility of advancement.
