Great people and challenging work

Indeed Featured review

The people here are top notch. The absence of a union allows management to actually talk to their employees to resolve issues. Always opportunities to learn more.

Pros

Pay and benefits

Cons

very conservative and slow moving on a lot of policies

Productive and fun workplace

Working at Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) was very enjoyable. NPPD greatly values safety, and it is cool to have everyone working towards a common goal. I made many great friends while working there, and I would highly recommend it.

Outstanding employer and employees, benefits and pay

NPPD employees are smart, hardworking, talented individuals dedicated to serving the state of Nebraska and our fellow Nebraskans. Nebraska Public Power District has excellent benefits including: a a generous paid parental leave program, separate vacation and medical leave quotas rather than one combined PTO program, an outstanding 401k match, an annual HSA employer contribution, wellness & safety programs and incentives, medical, dental, vision, life, long-term care insurance and a new retiree health stipend. Pay is excellent.

Pros

$2 for $1 match up to 5% annual salary on 401k, paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child, excellent pay, retiree healthcare benefit/stipend, along with everything already mentioned above.

Cons

Can be stressful depending on projects and workload

Old Timers Replaced by Gen Z

The entire building was 30 year employees who were overpaid and underworked. Many started there out of high school with no college and were never encouraged to receive an eduction or ongoing training on management. Narrow minded, good ol boy system. These are now being replaced with Generation Y & Z. They have no respect for previous employees and former employees are not welcome back . If you’re working just for money and retirement this is your place. If you don’t want the life and soul sucked out of you, I suggest move on .

Pros

Benefits, 401K

Cons

Poor management that is tenured in, HR shoves bad management under the rug, Inappropriate relationships with the VP to get promoted in HR dept.

Wonderful place to work

The positives of this work place far out weigh the negatives. I would say that this is one of the better places to work that I have ever heard of. I would recommend a position here to anyone.

Good company to work for.

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is a solid company to work for. For the first six years, I worked in the Fossil Engineering department, which dealt with the coal fired and hydro generating plants. Then I transferred to the Nuclear Engineering Department.

Pros

Solid company.

Cons

The Nuclear Department was all-consuming.

Job Contract - Six Months

Work was good - people I worked with in North Platte, NE were great. Compensation and working condition for the six-month contract were good. North Platte is a comfortable small town/city in the middle of Nebraska.

Pros

Engineers and staff in North Platte, Ne

Cons

Would prefer not to say!

Good place to work with good benefits

Good place to work. Good benefits. It's a nice place to work. Traditional Utility with a hierarchical structure that at times is onerous. Location is pretty rural. Closest city of any size is 1.5 hours away.

Pros

Autonomy

Cons

Traditional Heirarchy

Typical days - long hours 100 percent travel away from home.

Not really any issues with NPPD - I worked as an on-site contractor and my issues were mostly with my company's management. Contractors treated about the same as anywhere else.

Nice People, Public Company

Your coworkers will be very nice and passionate, but the company as a whole doesn't feel the same way. Since it is a public company there were no bonuses at the end of the year and time sheets had to be completed and reviewed every pay period for all employees.

Ok

A typical work day involves a turnover with off going crew at locations that operate 24/7. The hardest part of a location that operates 24/7 is working a rotating shift.

Great Benefits, compensation not so much

There were no evaluation criteria for personnel performance. When review time came around, employees found out the hard way that they were evaluated to a different set of criteria than what was discussed at the previous review. Usually, the evaluation criteria were kept secret so no adjustments could be accomplished prior to the review.

Pros

the people I worked with

Cons

management of personnel was lacking

Nebraska Nice

Great area to raise you children. Safety area with low crime and good schools. Cooper Nuclear Station was a work in progress when I arrived in 1997. The station has achieved INPO 1, become a trusted site with the NRC and has set many generation and run records.

Good people, environment.

Locale is limited, must accept the limitations a small town imposes and/or accept an hour+ commute to larger metropolitan areas.
