Highly recommended for Medical Assistants who want to learn skills and gain experience with fascinating patients!
I left a CMA position at Seattle Children's Hospital to come work for the 45th Street Clinic and Homeless Youth Clinic 3 years ago. I did take a pay cut but it was ENTIRELY worth it for a variety of reasons. The team of providers, nurses, MAs, lab tech, and admin folks is close-knit, dedicated, and just plain awesome. The doctors and mid-level providers - more... give wonderful care to patients and have been lovely to work with.
Unlike many MA roles offered in hospitals, the one at Neighborcare offers an opportunity to use nearly ALL skills an MA is qualified to perform: blood draws, finger-sticks, ... - less
ProsExcellent experience with very diverse patient population and responsibilities, valuable experience if trying to pursue other programs in healthcare, the company serves indigent and underserved populations
ConsEnvironment feels rushed at times, frequent staff and management turnover, community clinics in general offer lower pay
