It depends on the position itself. Some require past experience, a background check, and a drug test, and other openings don't need any of that. All of them require an interview, an application, and a resume. No one is hired without an in-person interview at the place you'd be working. Sick days for an NESC contractor are dependant on the company, state, and local laws. For instance, in California any employee (including temporary and contract) earns at least one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked - but even inside that state, Oakland, San Francisco, and Emeryville have variations. Since the majority of our positions are either already scheduled to become permanent (temp-to-hire) or are only scheduled to last a few months, it's not a common situation. In rare instance where an employee is going to remain a contractor and not become a permanent employee for close to a year or more, a raise is absolutely an option. That would be a discussion you would have with both your recruiter and your management. Thank you for your question!

Drug tests are done when the client company (where temps go to work) requires it. The majority of our openings ask for drug testing before the person starts, but not all of them.
