The people and culture at NHS is great, it's probably the overall friendliest and easy going place I've ever worked. Everyone gets along pretty well and is willing to help you with anything you might need.

There is very little disconnect between staff and upper management when you compare NHS to many other companies. Communication is clear and concise and they are very good about keeping staff in the loop with most things.

The only downsides of working here as an average employee is there is almost no room for advancement or pay raise, and the base pay isn't phenomenal by any means.

Basically, this isn't a job you get into for the money. You either do it out of passion for the animals or for the experience needed to further a future career in the animal care industry.
Pros
Great work environment, Good management, Clear communication between staff
Cons
No room for advancing, bad pay, sometimes understaffed

Typical day was doing adoption processing, surrender intake, and health check for disease control. I learned about breeds of cats, and dogs. Behavioral issues from breed to breed & how to administer medications while checking for potential disease. Management was great with one head manager completely hands on for front staff. Culture was wonderful great location, in a beautiful new start the art facility. The hardest part of the job was dealing with owner surrenders. The most enjoyable part was the skills I learned, and the relationships I gained with the public.
Pros
Cross training, management
Cons
Politics

For those dedicated to animal welfare this is a wonderful job. The director is a wonderful and kind person who I would work for forever if it paid a good wage. They are a non-profit and as such the salary is at the low end. It would be a great job for someone who loves animals and needs some extra cash, but it does not provide a livable wage for a single person.
Pros
Good management and company culture
Cons
lack of good compensation and advancement opportunities
