Great place to work at. Worked there for 2 years with my school and they decided to take me in as a summer intern and it was a great experience. Great pay too.

Software Developer Contractor (Current Employee) –  Ipswich, MAJune 20, 2018
Employees help in any way to work with the success of the company. The company acknowledges employees special days, free lunch on Thursday and working with the community.

Restriction Enzymes
Production Associate (Former Employee) –  Ipswich, MAOctober 25, 2017
New England Biolabs makes all sorts of restriction enzymes. People have them sent to their labs and they do experiments with them. They come in little plastic tubes.

Stunning work place with beautiful art, strong craft beers, and inspiring people
Summer Student Intern (Former Employee) –  Ipswich, MAApril 11, 2016
I learned the basics of molecular biology, how to follow instructions, how to correct mistakes, and how to focus on tasks. My boss was understanding and flexible.

The most enjoyable part of my job was meeting the other summer interns, eating free cookies and getting to appreciate the Museum-like decor at the lab.

The hardest part of my job was having to give a presentation on what I worked on during the summer.
Pros
Company culture

A mixed bag...[slowly drifting into unmitigated dysfunction]
Research Associate (Former Employee) –  Ipswich, MAOctober 8, 2014
NEB's employee compensation/benefits package is probably one of the best in the industry and the main reason why employee turnover is extremely low.
As a result, most employees have become too entrenched in their roles, inflexible, secretive and territorial, but also more complacent over time and more reluctant to change, and clearly more concerned about quarterly sales than about science and innovation.
In addition, projects are assigned and promotions decided more on the basis of the employees' personal connections than on their qualifications, so most of the managerial positions are now occupied by persons of questionable credentials that are clearly unable to lead.
All that has created a climate of intellectual stagnation and now that the company is faced with considerable competition, the upper management does not seem to know how to address the situation.
Additionally there has been a lot of dishonesty and unethical behavior, in addition to the nepotism, in upper and middle management which in turn has elicits mistrust from the rest of the employees.
In short, if money is that important to you, you should consider employment there.
If career advancement, professional fulfillment and a cooperative environment are your priorities, look elsewhere.
Pros
Great compensation package.
Cons
Dysfunctional atmosphere. Hostility. Poor ethics. Not very good science..

Excellent Science, Terrible Management
Product and Applications Development Scientist (Former Employee) –  Ipswich, MAMarch 27, 2013
If you're looking for a check and a place with a high tolerance for nonsense, you'll love it here. Incredible pay/bonus, benefits, local and community (meaning the community the company is located in). If you're looking for great science you'll find it here as well. If you're looking for an academic environment, you'll find it here.

If you're looking for good management, innovation, evolution, a great understanding of the business they're in, high-level business practices, and value placed on risk/willingness to fail, you will not find it here.

The average person here has been with the company for 15 years, the culture is old and entrenched. You're a newbie for the first 10 years you are there. Lots of the workers are married to each other or related to one another. The social fabric is complicated with many cliques and long-standing feuds and vendettas. Generally speaking though, people are welcoming of new people and kind to them.
Pros
outstanding pay/benefits, amazing facility, good work/life balance
Cons
terrible management, lack of understanding of the business they're in, zero-value on innovation, "change" is a bad word
