Cashier (Current Employee) – Half Moon Bay, CA – October 2, 2018
The whole time I have been working at New Leaf as a cashier, there has not been a front end manager and within a month of getting hired, both of our general store managers quit so now we are working with department managers and there are no general managers to look over everything.
Grocery Associate (Former Employee) – Half Moon Bay, CA – July 8, 2018
I loved my job at New Leaf, from the top down, the company truly cares about both its customers and employees. Employees get a discount on groceries. The company offers plenty of room for growth. I greatly miss my job at New Leaf.
Meat Department Clerk (Former Employee) – Half Moon Bay, CA – April 12, 2018
Management is virtually inexistent and does not communicate. Managers clock in to work but clock out in there heads. They pay the employees garbage and expect 110% . New employees are thrown right in without proper training and with constant customers that ask dozens of health or allergy related questions, they expect them to know what they are serving but the lack of training, willing to pay better wages and lack of care is why that company is suffering and closing stores. Any company that claims they have exceptional customer service usually has poor service with employees they don't care about. Cost of living here is high and there starting all around pay can't even pay one month of rent let alone food, electricity, internet, gas and what ever else you need to live.
Not worth waisting your time, they don't care about you.
Bakery with commitment to high quality natural foods, be prepared to work hard.
Bakery Department Manager (Current Employee) – Felton, CA – November 26, 2017
This bakery produces a very high quality product and actively encourages creativity on the part of the bakers. The compensation higher here than other bakeries. This department is very small and has limited resources for professional development, so the most successful candidates will come to this job with prior kitchen or baking experience or be a motivated self-started with a high initiative to learn. The smallness of the operation also means the staffing is very tight, which can make it difficult to get time off and often requires working overtime to cover when someone is out. This is a very physical job. You'll spend all day on your feet moving.
decent pay, satisfaction from creating an awesome product
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) – Pleasanton, CA – February 26, 2017
Working with hippies at New Leaf. It was laid back, yet productive. It was an organic lifestyle. They made sure you have a lifestyle schedule, meaning 2 days off in row. Opportunity for Gain Share. Affordable health care benefits. Direct management was easy to get along with.
Meat Department Assistant Manager (Former Employee) – Santa Cruz, CA – November 20, 2015
I was responsible for running a sustainable meat/fish counter within Newleaf Market. I learned how to fillet fish, and correctly cut meats. My co-workers were some of the best in the world and I really learned how important that is. The most enjoyable part of the job was serving the community sustainable foods.
Human Resources (Current Employee) – Santa Cruz, CA – September 22, 2015
New Leaf has been around for over 30 years and started as a grassroots market that stands by the quality and social responsibility around its all natural products. It is a company with high integrity, yet very "young" compared to their competitors like Whole Foods, the work culture supports work life balance and offers perks like 20% discount on groceries.
Co workers are supportive and people are very nice.
