Good place to work
Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) (Former Employee) –  Throop, PAApril 23, 2019
It was a wonderful and trusting atmosphere. Everyone is willing to help with information or support when needed. The hardest part of the job was the beginning when getting to know the kids and the staff members and feeling comfortable enough. With the helpful and supportive staff, this was an easy transition.

Don't work here
Behavioral Support Specialist (Former Employee) –  Mountville, PANovember 1, 2018
Ultimately, New Story is run more like a business than a school. They care much more about the bottom line than they do about students. They continued to intake new students without proper staffing - putting staff in danger. The entire management act like teenagers with the gossiping and the cliques. The behavioral consultants look down upon support staff. I would not recommend New Story to my worst enemy. The only pro is that you follow a school schedule.

challenging yet rewarding
Behavior Support Specialist (Current Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAOctober 9, 2017
The position is very challenging yet very rewarding when you see progress being made with the students. The hardest part of the job is being "on" for the 6 hours students are present during the day. The most enjoyable is the staff working there and the team mentality. Management is very supportive and always on the floor of the school to help. Overall is a great place to work, learn, and be challenged!
Pros
training, health insurance, paid school holidays, team environment
Cons
pay (this is the case in the entire field of behavior services)

Classroom Assistant (Current Employee) –  Wyoming, PAJune 9, 2015
Assisting teacher and students with all needs to make education knowledgeable and fun. Team player with co-workers to have a safe educational atmosphere. The hardest part of the job is watching students transition back to their district school or graduate. It is a blessings to see the long path and all who are included to get them back on the right track.
Pros
Team orientated

Don't work here if you take pride in what you do
TSS (Former Employee) –  Harrisburg, PAMay 15, 2015
New Story lacks managerial skills and does not pay fair, competitive wages. The majority of the employees are dissatisfied and will openly vocalize their unhappiness. There is very minimal training and the demands are high. I would NEVER recommend this company.
Cons
Poor management, nepotism and poor wages

Rewarding place to work
Classroom Assistant (Current Employee) –  Throop, PAJune 16, 2013
On a typical day, I assist Special Education teachers, and teachers assistants with their daily academic and behavioral goals. I have learned to adjust my day to day schedule quickly and easily. I occasionally substitute for lead teachers in the classrooms.
My co-workers are very supportive and easy to work with everyday. We all work as a team to make sure our days run smoothly. The hardest part of my job can be the emotional toll throughout the day. Working with children with special needs can be very emotional.
The most enjoyable part of my job, is seeing the progress that students make throughout the school year, academically and behaviorally.
Pros
co-workers are very supportive.
Cons
health benefits

If your a minority DO NOT APPLY...
Lower level worker (Former Employee) –  PaFebruary 6, 2013
From what I understand NewStory, Inc Is a great place to work if you aren't a minority. They usually hire just enough to stay under the radar of the EOE department and usually find some way to get rid of them so it seems like its their fault. Notwithstanding that the Founder of the company is widely known to be racist. How is it possible to Therapeutically treat different cultures and detest them because of the color of their skin or economic status? Or how is it that a child who needs help in a school run only by one culture going to relate? How is it that in todays society people can get away with a social injustice of racism inside and organization built for HUMAN SERVICES? I guess it goes back to what the color of the RIGHT human would be.... If you are of a minority race, I think you should be able to talk to the staff that are currently working there before you apply to ANY organization like this, that has NO other cultured administration amongst them, and claim to be an equal opportunity employer...
Pros
pro wasp
Cons
any minority that shows potential will not advance.

Behavioral Support Staff (Current Employee) –  York, PennsylvaniaJune 13, 2012
New Story meet the behavioral and education needs of Autistic children. I have learned applied behavior modification and creative ways of teaching children learning techniques. Staff and management are very supportive of the children. The difficult part of the job is managing physical aggression. The enjoyable part of the job is working with the children on various activities.
Pros
staff support
Cons
lack diversity
