  • It is a very long hiring process and you shouldn’t give notice at your job until you actually start your first day on the DOE job. My start date was postponed 4 times over 6 months!

  • You have to be nominated by a principal and go through a couple testing procedures and workshops. In addition, a medical and fingerprints are needed.

  • Before you can be hired, you must have at least a bachelors degree in teaching which usually turns out to be four years of college. You also have to be in a masters program to further your education.

  • Undergraduate and Graduate degree and 5 certification exams.

  • Person of interest must have a Bachelors Degree to teach and then take NYS exams to become certified and a Masters Degree is required as well the DOE will give a time limit to attain the Masters Degree
