caring and challenging workplace

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
caring and challenging workplace. The system is a bit slow and huge,, so we can not adapt quickly to change. But the teachers are loyal and hard working individuals that really care about their students,

Rewarding

The job is rewarding but challenging. There are a lot of benefits, including the connections that you can make with students, but the time commitment can be overwhelming.

Great benefits, rest depends on where you are

Excellent benefits and great pay. Chance to make a difference in children's lives, depending on your location and if you do not let the politics of the job bother you.

Interesting dynamics

Working for the DOE is interesting. The red tape is unbearable. There are some good and collaborative admin but some are not. If you want to make a difference, the DOE may not be the best place to work.

Great pay and benefits

Pay and benefits are great. Union has your back! Caseload is manageable. Paperwork is manageable. Supervision is as much or as little as you need. Culture varies by placement.

It's ok.

Alot of red tape, the culture is high stress over old data and deadlines that usually get extended. But if you truly love education everything else will just be the annoying part.

Disorganized

Really do your research before accepting a position. Speak to current teachers either in the DOE or at the schools you're interested in to get insight and guidance.

Great space, bad timing

The pros about working for DOE are professional development, great networking with other educators and leaders. Quality relationships in your school and community. Cons: seniority and budgeting could be the sole reason you are cut

With hundreds of schools to pick from, go with God

There is not much more I can say, but get a mentor, speak up for yourself, and don't spend all weekend doing work. That is the fast track to burnout. Where you land is not where you have to stay, but make it through the year. Pray for compassionate administrators who remember what being in the classroom was like.

Pros

Lots of benefits and pay scale adjusted for education

Cons

Burnout central.

Good but bureaucratic

Great place to work! Tenure makes it safe to keep job and it is easy to get promoted and learn as they pay for professional development. However, there can be burecratic lining that prevents you from effective teaching.

Stressful and overwhelming

I haven’t been with school food long, but this job ain’t for the week. As much as they say they will support you, that support is slim to none. This job is overwhelming and it is the definition of protecting your mental health. Truly though, the job isn’t hard, it’s the people that make it hard. They are so short staffed that they don’t want you to leave. But it’s only because they want to benefit others. This job is like a revolving door. But if you can handle it kudos to you.

Pros

Free lunch, time off, benefits

Cons

Short breaks, pay, no support

It’s solely based on tenure What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Has its ups and downs like any job. Just remember working with children is wonderful but drains a lot of your energyWhat is a typical day like for you at the company?Walk in, clock in, work, lunch, work, dismissal for students, clock out.

Depends on the Position

I was lucky to get a school with a supportive admin, however the DOE requirements can be pretty ridiculous from time to time and are often not helpful to staff or students. However, I really enjoyed the school I worked at and was able to build a lot of meaningful relationships with staff and students. If you are organized and stay on top of things, it gets easier. However, it can be a lot of stress and you have to be flexible because things will get thrown at you last minute and change all the time.

Fun, educational and rewarding.

What is the best part of working at the company? Each day is another exciting day as well as always meeting new people and students' parents. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Working with students not being able to help each and every one of them who needs it.What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Diversified group of individuals everyone gets along and works well together. What is a typical day like for you at the company?A surprise!! Not really knowing what's going to happen next...which is all good, along with my daily routine as well.

great workplace

As a teacher working in a school, I can confidently say that this is one of the best workplaces I've ever been a part of. It's a place where we work hard but also have fun while doing so. The school administration understands the importance of creating a positive work environment, and they go out of their way to make sure that everyone feels appreciated and supported. One thing that makes this school a fun workplace is the strong sense of community among the staff. We work together as a team, and everyone is always willing to help out when needed. We regularly organize team-building activities and social events that help us bond as a team and build relationships with one another.

Pros

good schedule

Cons

salary
