Reviews about Pay & Benefits for Teacher in New York City Department of Education
Never a Dull Day
Teacher (Current Employee) - Bronx, NY - February 15, 2023
Works tough, not enough compensation, but it's never boring. I'd rather better pay over excitement, or even tangible opportunities for growth aside from moving into administration.

Strong Unions - HR is a Disaster
Teacher (Current Employee) - Brooklyn, NY - November 1, 2022
Every HR process from your initial application to your benefits, through retirement information will be an utter and complete headache from start to finish. I recall the application process for my job putting me in tears due to its vague incomprehensible multi-step directions. Administrators will care more about covering their butts and following mandates that are applied sloppily to every teacher regardless of content area or age group being taught. In short they will value test scores and bureaucracy over genuine student learning. That being said, the union is very strong and helpful - will assist you in understanding your rights so you’re not taken advantage of. And the pay can’t be beat. You have to be very tough to work at NYC DOE.
