Good starter job
Manufacturing Chemist (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHApril 15, 2019
Really good group of people to work with, everyone helps each other and there's no petty infighting. Management wants to help you grow and listens to your goals.

Very poor work enviroment. Very poor training. Responsibilities are not defined and training for the responsibilities is poor. Management is terrible.
Employee (Current Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHDecember 19, 2018
A bad place to work. Management in certain areas is clueless on how to manage people. All departments don't work under the same leadership team. So that adds to a toxic environment. Favoritism is an issue at all companies, but here management head hunts if you have an opinion that is different from theirs, and there is no open door policy to talk about issues. The HR department is by far the best part of Avecia. I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
Pros
Its a job.
Cons
Training, experience, management. Need I go on.

Manager (Former Employee) –  MassachusettsSeptember 2, 2018
Management is terrible. They put all of their eggs in one basket, and jobs are lost. I would never recommend this business. I have never been more deceived by a manager than I was at Nitto. Even the CEO got let go! Stay away

Work is ok, Management is awful
Manufacturing Chemist (Former Employee) –  Cincinnati, OHMay 24, 2018
The work is ok. The job requires people with bachelor's degrees. However, I don't believe it should. There's no critical thinking or any real chemistry skills required in order to perform the job well. That being said, the work is fairly easy and the pay is decent.

Management, however, is a different story. None of the managers have any real management experience and it shows. Some of them shouldn't have been promoted to manager in the first place.

There is also no real communication between departments, which leads to big problems constantly.

Slow-paced environment with a limited product and client base
Analytical Development Training Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Marlborough, MADecember 12, 2017
There was little opportunity to develop creative or innovative analytical methods. Mostly method transfer from clients.

Product line was limited to oligonucleotides- no interest in small molecules.

Exciting Chemistry Poor Managment
Manufacturing Chemist (Former Employee) –  Reading, OHOctober 17, 2017
Nitto Denko Avecia is a Pharmaceutical CMO (contract manufacturing organization) that specializes in Oligonucleotides with sites in Cincinnati, OH; Milford, MA; and San Diego, CA. This is a very young and fast growing field; however, this company is currently poorly managed. There is a large amount of politics in the middle management that get in the way of actual work. I believe things are changing and it will get better in time. The company has growth potential, and intends to stay in the CMO market.

Poor human resources skills!
IT Support Technician (Former Employee) –  Milford, MAAugust 7, 2017
They don't evaluate employees in person, very poor management. The IT manager doesn't know nothing about computers at all. Employees make recommendations based in personal judgment and not about professionalism.

Is not as good as it used to be
QC Analyst (Former Employee) –  Milford, MAMay 12, 2015
Good Place to Learn, Flexible timing, friendly and smart employees in Analytical, QC and Process Development Groups

The Cons:
The senior Management has a disconnect with the day to day operations of the company. For that reason, they constantly make bad decisions.
The Development groups are overwhelmed and are forced to sacrifice quality for quantity.
Hard work and Ethics are not appreciated or respected.
The attrition rate is very high, and the company has lost the most valued employees in recent years but the management doesn’t realize that there is a problem.
Limited growth opportunities. Forget about promotions.
Management change your job responsibilities without consulting or even raising your salary.
Not recommended for experienced scientists.
Pros
Free lunch once a month
Cons
Hard work doesn't pay off in here

Analytical Development Associate (Former Employee) –  Milford, MANovember 14, 2014
Overall, Avecia is a great place to work. The work is difficult. The expectations are high. But it is a very rewarding business to work for. I would recommend this job for anyone that is looking for a challenge or looking for a place to learn and grow faster than at your average company.
