Legal Assistant (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 26, 2018
Although challenged with a Manager that went thru numerous assistants, I ended up in the Legal Department and the managers were great. I ended up leaving to help my husband run his law practice.

Good Place to Learn
Fixed Income Sales Assistant (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 23, 2018
Good place to learn and to build knowledge on products. Great 401k plan and people are friendly. They can do better promoting within but otherwise I enjoy it.

hard to advance
Associate (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 21, 2018
Overall the company is a good place to work, but morale has been going down because they do have layoffs every year or so and are moving very quickly to implementing AI and it is unclear how that will affect employment and advancement opportunities.
Pros
great benefits, fair pay, great sushi
Cons
consistent lay offs

Vice President / Payroll-HR (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 11, 2018
Good solid financial services firm that promotes and advocates progressive learning without sacrificing work-life balance. Compensation for merit could be better with some years are good with some years not so good even though there's obvious disparity.

Dynamic Environment
Vice President, Corporate Technology Services (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 10, 2018
Nomura is a dynamic fast paced environment. Things are changing all the time. You have to be able to multi-task, and be proactive, and work across regions.

No Room for Growth
Analyst I (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 8, 2018
It is almost impossible to be promoted within ops. The organizational chart makes very little sense and does not leave a lot of room to be able to move vertically. Internal transfers are possible though it is not incredibly likely. The operations group is a good place to start from assuming you intend move to another company later.

Not a place for women of certain race
VP (Current Employee) –  New York, NYApril 23, 2018
Not a good place for professional and independent-minded women to work. Female employees of certain race are discriminated against, underpaid, and under-appreciated, while working longer hours in harsher work environment than employees of other races. Favoritism and age discrimination are not uncommon.
Pros
health / dental insurance, 401(K)
Cons
discriminations and favoritism

Resonable Place to work But little increases
Development Manager for Excel trading system (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 11, 2018
Time off was always a problem. Very stressful with impossible deadlines to meet. Management was not always good, Very poor delegation of duties. Overall a good place to work but you need to always ask about pay increases.

Firm had system issues
Financial Analyst (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMarch 27, 2018
The work was very manual so the staff put in many hours to complete the work. There was lots of system breaks due to lack of reconciliation. Senior management did not understand the business nor did they participate in correcting the system problem the the staff was dealing with on a continuses basis.

Productive and good place to start your career with
Technology Analyst (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMarch 6, 2018
My typical day would start with going through all the emails and responding them. Following that, we would have daily meetings. After that, work on my project work will the end of the day.
The workplace is really cool and everybody is easily accessible.

Very good benefits that were very cheap because they were self funded
VICE PRESIDENT, Sr Project Manager/BA (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMarch 5, 2018
The culture in Nomura was more collaborative. You didn't have any hierarchy issues. Meaning, if you were doing a fixed income project for traders and you needed to speak to the head of trading, all you had to do was arrange a time, or walk the floor in case he was free for the time you needed.
Pros
Great Benefits, Collaborative environment
Cons
Difficult to advance to the next level

Analysts/Associates running out the door
Associate (Former Employee) –  New York, NYFebruary 11, 2018
Senior bankers only there to collect as big a paycheck as possible before they retire. The company is constantly hiring new senior bankers and then laying off large numbers of employees so they can afford to pay them big guarantees. Senior bankers have no appreciation for juniors and will have them stay all night just to build profile books. Junior bankers also don't get real live deal experience, since the only deals the company does are non-lead leverage finance deals. These bad experiences and comp that is well below market is why there is a steady stream of junior bankers leaving and going to other banks.
Pros
Sushi bar
Cons
Comp way below market, few live deals, senior bankers

The most boring job i've ever had
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  New York, NYFebruary 6, 2018
Very slow-paced. Racist work environment. Corporate culture was horrible. Very manual office systems. Outdated technology. High turn-over rate. Management would talk down at you.

Vice President (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 12, 2018
Overall Nomura is what you make of it. Coming from a larger shop it is easier to be seen and heard here if you are a high performer.
Ability to get in front of senior people and have your voice heard. Only downside is the high amount of turnover.
Pros
High Visibility
Cons
High Turnover
