Big time disappointment
Teller (Former Employee) –  New HampshireApril 4, 2018
Teller staff can expect to be left alone on the line to service both drive up and lobby customers often as management has meetings and meetings about meetings. Poor planning and complete indifference for the staff that is the “face of the company” leads to often being behind the ball and in sticky AVOIDABLE situations often impacting customers directly. The culture has drastically changed from needs based to aggressive sales and “throw everything at them and see what sticks.” Call center staff frequently cold transfers often to branch staff, who already are overwhelmed with customers within the branches, with calls that are simply about balances or transactions. There is no such thing as leadership support at Northway Bank, often I had to call other branches’ supervisors to answer questions because management and platform were in meetings and/or sales calls and oblivious to a melting down tellerline. Promoting is favoritism at its best. The reason for not getting a promotion should never be “it would just be too much drama.” Very disappointing time with a company that promised a lot of room to grow in a culture of mutual respect and support from each other. All I walk away from Northway with is experience in a fast-paced stressful environment that is quickly becoming all about sales and less and less about what is right for customers and it’s employees.
Pros
Vacation/sick time
Cons
Management, agressive sales environment, little room for advancement, lack of support

Management doesn't develop staff for job advancement. The bank is very top heavy and not much structure. The lack of teamwork among branches is unfortunate. The policies are outdated and not consistent. Management doesn't enforce policies. Allowing staff to sit on cell phones all day and manager being extremely unprofessional.

BRANCH MANAGER (Former Employee) –  New HampshireFebruary 9, 2018
I was really excited to work for this company but learned that the company is disorganized with no strategy to build business in their branches or develop employees. While the say feedback is a gift, I was shunned and reprimanded if I provided ideas or plans to improve the business. Challenging the culture at this bank is highly frowned upon even if something done is not right. There is high turnover which lead to staffing issues and thus, work/life balance issues. Your family will not be a priority with this company. Lastly, employee issues are not dealt with correctly by senior management. Branch managers have essentially no authority to handle issues and senior management would rather turn a blind eye than do what’s right for the branches. I put four years of my career into trying to do well in this organization and continuously hoping things wold improve and now have great regret for not leaving sooner. Every corporation has its quirks; however, this company has far too many serious ones for any employee to do well there. My advice to others is to look for opportunity at other banks.

Awesome job in itself but...
Employee (Current Employee) –  Berlin, NHOctober 18, 2017
If you can handle chitchat. This is the place for you. The work is great. Customers are wonderful. It's rewarding to see the smile on their faces when their issues are solved. They have many needs and patience is necessary. This job can be high stress. Especially when the occasional bank robber stops by for a quick withdraw.
Management is 50/50 some are awesome and some are not. Good luck getting a good one.
The culture there is way too personal. Everyone is in everybody's business. Even some mgrs/supvs can't resist the temptation of speaking badly about past and current employees to the point of leading the conversations. No one is exempt from their attacks.
Keep it professional and stay away from the verbal daily news.

They do not pay as much as other banks. But it's steady
This bank has a high turnaround. I have seen many mgrs and employees come and go. Many within a very short time.
Otherwise you could enjoy the work itself. Just keep your eye on the prize. And if the right people like you. You will move up. Albeit slowly. The decor is a little outdated but clean. The restrooms are clean as well. HTH
Pros
Health/Dental/401k If full time. Steady pay and work hours.
Cons
Low pay compared to other banks.

I completely agree with you. The daily attacks on fellow employees were harsh and cruel. And leading them all is the manager/supervisors. It's childish gossip which Northway Bank breeds. Don't try to bring it to upper management they will bury you to protect their own. What an embarrassment! If you do decide to work there. Choose your dept. carefully. Meet with the managers. Look for the professional vs. clique. If you can do that not only will you love it there but you will succeed.

If you enjoy a company that doesn't pay well, and doesn't care about employees well work here!! Otherwise if you want to have a chance to advance, be paid a living wage, and felt respected then look wise where. Northway bank is a joke.

Strict and stressful workplace run by militant control freaks
Branch Team Leader (Current Employee) –  NHAugust 27, 2017
I have worked for this company twice now. In the beginning it was a great place to work but over the years after changing senior management multiple times, it has become extremely unpleasant to be there.

The management is very controlling, as they are always forcing you to follow "their views". The work environment is incredibly stressful. You get no breaks, short lunches and sometimes you may not get to sit and eat something until 3pm.

I would not recommend working at this company mostly because they do not promote from within, you work long hours and they are NOT a family friendly company. They will have you resign before they work with any sort of scheduling need for your kids.

Currently seeking new employment.
