I would report to my office, then go to the production areas to say hi to the employees and observe them working. I was looking for posture and movement to prevent repetitive motion, as well as other injuries.
I learned to communicate on all levels and be approachable. I learned management doesn't mean you're special. I also learned demonstration and repetition is often the best method of training.
This company is privately owned by a very intelligent, thoughtful man who never set himself apart from anyone and would work along side everyone. He kept in close contact with all employees, and was approachable to all employees at all times.
The workplace was calm, positive and productive due to the owner.
The hardest part was a language barrier, which we resolved with translator and demonstration.
The best part was watching people have fun at work, enjoy being together and becoming a family.
