Programmer (Former Employee) –  Brooklyn, NYJanuary 17, 2019
As a contract employee I was not very integrated into the general culture there. On the other hand, other programmers were very social and conversations were the norm rather than the exception.

Fantastic Place to Work
Associate General Counsel (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 14, 2019
I had a great experience there. The management was collaborative, my fellow attorneys were colleagues, not cut throat. I was treated with respect. I was promoted. I'm sorry I am not working there now.

Unpleasant place to work.
Job Opportunity Specialist (Current Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 6, 2019
Too many cases to deal with — no training for the job position.

Supervisors are aggressive on getting the jobs done. Co-workers are cold to one another.

Toxic Work Culture
Case Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYOctober 5, 2018
I dont recommend anyone work here unless you need to start your career. The work culture is toxic. It is not easy to advance in your career due to the civil service system

Associate Job Opportunity Specialist (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 28, 2018
Working for the city government has its perks but the atmosphere is not professional. The benefits offered are amazing. The culture of the agency and the behavior that is allowed by employees are not conducive to a positive work environment.

Custodian Level 2 (Current Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 6, 2018
Promotion at HRA is reasonable and fair. Great place to learn how to grow in careers. We learn how to communicate with others and staff. I came here for growth. I've learned a great deal and with the help of my supervisor I will accomplish my goal

A Force for Good
Staff Analyst (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 3, 2018
I was employed at ACS through IOS Staffing on a temporary basis. The work was a variety of general office duties with some more challenging administrative projects added as and when needed. My colleagues were incredibly decent, supportive people who took the work very seriously. While the nature of the work can be psychologically harrowing - many of the statistics being compiled and cases being proofread contain details that are disturbing - there was a great sense of working together to make positive changes. Bronx South has incredible character as a place to work. Sadly, without full medical insurance and a guaranteed salary 45 times the rent of a modest apartment, life can be tough - even with one or two additional jobs. This is more a reflection of rental and insurance costs in the state than any criticism of either ACS or IOS. A positive experience.
Pros
A real sense of duty and purpose. Meet incredible people.
Cons
Can be stressful; should be opportunities to go permanent.

The company provided a professional workplace culture, that consisted of scheduled meetings (to provide updates on project assignments), time to complete written documentation, and meeting with subject matter experts as needed.

Working with the Contracts Divison at Human Resources Administration
Assistant Director of Contract Support Services (Former Employee) –  New York, NYAugust 26, 2018
New York City Department of Human Resources (HRA) is an equal opportunity employer with opportunities for elevation and responsibility to make anyone's journey in the workforce full and complete. Contracts are intricate, complexed, challenging, and resolving issues are a pleasure. As a Manager I find that some staff members are not apt for change but change is sometimes necessary to enhance performance. The most enjoyable part of the day is work well done and completed.
Pros
Day comes to an end quickly when there's work to be done.
Cons
Slow work makes johnny a dull boy.

It is a relaxed place to work but salary is low. Benefits are great. If you want to advance or if you are seeking promotions, just keep taking city jobs exams.

Intern Pik Pak Unit (Former Employee) –  Jamaica, NYJune 26, 2018
It is an excellent office where people treat you like family. The supervisors helped you a lot and assigned you fair assignments. Sometimes they do lunch for all the office. Supervisors compensate for your hard working.
