Permanent Staff (Current Employee) –  Long Island City, NYDecember 6, 2017
Day-to-day there are constant changes and a lack of communication making it difficult to learn and advance in your career. I learned conflict resolution, patience, and resilience. The culture is politically charged and secretive, making it the hardest part of the job.
Pros
Paid Time Off
Cons
Stressful

Managers do not have practical experience.
Structural Engineer (Former Employee) –  Long Island City, NYNovember 8, 2017
Managers do not have practical experience, they ask everything from experienced architects and engineers, and then give it out for their knowledge.
Managers give orders and advice, for which they are not responsible in the future. The lack of knowledge about anything is explained by the notion of "means and method".
The time assigned by the managers to do work does not correspond to each other. Managers do not allow overtime payments and do not pay for them, they distribute work unevenly between employees - some do little, while others are forced to stay 3 hours or even more extra to do the work without paying for overtime.
There is a situation in which it is impossible to make a qualitative design, as there is not enough time.
Managers slander the employees.
Experienced architects and engineers, who worked for many years in this company, leave it. They say that such a non-working atmosphere has never existed.
Pros
Most employees are good and friendly people.

The SCA is more on the ball than a typical city agency. It is very focused on its mission of building public schools / capital improvements and has a focused culture.

Associate Architect (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 11, 2015
A typical day which i look forward to come and work at SCA. As an Associate Architect and working with electrical group was something new for me. Amazing experience with Engineers and learned vast variety of Electrical system. The Management here at SCA is amazing. I haven yet not found great management system then here.

My co-workers ranges from beginner to top senior level with unlimited experience, are all friendly. Ready to help and they make sure I learned well. The hardest part of the job wold be dealing with Public school principal. Though it was another challenge to work with, but was not too hard to deal with any problems.

I enjoy the environment and friendliness of this place. Very relaxed environment and people are extremely friendly, which makes me look forward to come to work daily.

I have learned a great deal while at the SCA about Project Management, Project Planning and Analysis of workloads. It is a very rewarding job because of the work that is done for NYC Public Schools. Every day we help schools improve in many ways; from constructing new buildings to repairing the old ones as well as imporving the technology in them.
