A place to grow.
Barista (Former Employee) –  Athens, OHAugust 6, 2018
Working at an Inn & Conference center offered quite a few different departments to advance minimally in. However, with such a well connected network of locations and hands-on management, there is room to grow and opportunity to move one's career forward.
Pros
great management, good connections, friendly culture.
Cons
Fast paced and stressful at times

Building Maintenance Technician/Liaison (Former Employee) –  Athens, OHNovember 19, 2018
I have had many jobs while employed at the university. I have worked for some really great people and some who should not have been in supervisory positions at all. While I am strongly opinionated, I maintained a professional demeanor and only shared my personal views or feelings on a rare or limited occasion and felt generally respected from both management and staff. I have seen many changes over the years that I worked there and generally there was the sense that we were all there working to make the place a quality place, where people would leave with a good overall experience.

Toxic work culture
Research (Former Employee) –  Athens County, OHDecember 30, 2018
Leadership has been handed to a few high level administrators who possess little to no management training or skills. Management style is to make people so uncomfortable that they resign. High producers are marginalized

Town

Student Leader (Current Employee) –  Athens, OHNovember 24, 2018
I enjoyed working with my coworkers and subordinate students. The management could be a pain in the butt, but in general it is what it is. A student job, not a career

The culture here is great, from the teamwork to the management. There is a lot of things to learn from here and opportunities to grow professionally. The managers really took the time to get to know their employees. Lovely place.

Undergraduate Research Assistant (Current Employee) –  Athens, OHFebruary 17, 2019

The job depends on your direct supervisor and director.
Culinary Manager (Former Employee) –  Athens, OHOctober 18, 2018
Over worked and under paid. Not a lot room for advancement. Micromanaged. It really depends on who your direct supervisor is. There’s a lot of employee rotation.
Here are a couple positive aspects about working at OU: One is the paid time off you accrue, another is you can use all your vacation time off at once, free meals.

Great Place to Work
Office Assistant (Former Employee) –  Athens, OHJanuary 11, 2019
EBI is a great place to work! Supervisors and coworkers are so friendly and helpful, and the work is not strenuous at all. In a typical day, you will take and place orders from researchers in the building, pass out mail and packages to different researchers, and doing whatever might need done around the office or building. There is also the occasional Walmart trip or driving/picking up researchers to different building on campus when needed. At times, it can be fast-paced, but there is always another person working at the desk with you so you can divide the tasks and get everything done efficiently. They are also very flexible with scheduling around class schedules and any other commitments you might have. Overall, it is a very enjoyable place to work!

in 1990s-early 2000s--a feeling of campus community.
Vice President for Advancement (Former Employee) –  Athens OHApril 12, 2018
I served at OU from 1994 to 2008. During that time, the campus and its leadership was an amiable work environment, supportive of individuals.

From 2006 forward, the environment changed--leadership of Advancement Division became more corporate and cut-throat.

Leadership has change again, apparently for the better.
Pros
higher education mission. supportive work culture
Cons
change in leadership led to decline in division and campus culture

Ohio University Culinary Services
Student Employee (Former Employee) –  Athens, OHOctober 25, 2018
They provide opportunities for many students. Whether you're looking for just a few hours a week or a full schedule along with your class schedule. If you apply yourself and provide great customer service it's easy to move up into student management roles.
