One City Longer School Day Academies

On December 18, 2018, our kindergarteners at One City Schools performed for their parents and families, demonstrating what they are learning in our co-curricular academies that are a part of our extended day learning program. Our aim is two-fold: (1) to redefine public education by (in-part) offering important life-expanding and enriching learning opportunities "within the school day" that many parents cannot afford on their own, and (2) to expose our children to a range of opportunities that inform their interests, cultivate their passions, give context and meaning to their learning, and develop a deep understanding and competence in the diverse family and community culture they are growing up in. And look at that parent and family invovlement. More than 70% of our parents are routinely engaged in their children's education at our schools.

One City Teachers on 15-Day Teacher Residency in China

One City CEO Kaleem Caire filmed this video in the Shuangyi Village in Anji County, China after he and four of One City's teachers visited the Shuangyi Kindergarten to observe and tour on November 9, 2018. In this video, One City assistant teacher Molly Wilmsen and lead teacher Lisa Cutting discuss what they have learned in just their second day of a two-week teacher professional learning residency in Anji County kindergartens (that serve children ages 3 to 6). Both Lisa and Molly are part of the first cohort of One City Teachers that is studying AnjiPlay during a two-week teacher professional learning residency in Anji China. All One City teachers will venture to Anji China during the 2018-19 school year to train in this model of child-centered play in Anji kindergarten classrooms, with Anji teachers, children, families and school leaders.
