lots of changes
Business Analyst (Current Employee) –  Baltimore, MDOctober 15, 2018
Lots of changes in the company in a short time frame. Recently new CEO, no head of HR and lots of management team members left with no replacements. It will take some time to see how the company changes.

Boring workplace
Financial Representative (Former Employee) –  Hanover Park, ILOctober 12, 2018
Handle all customer issues that walked into the branch.

Learned how to deal with customers on a face-to-face basis.

Management was mostly supportive.

Workplace culture was very small.

Horrible place! Was great when it was Springleaf but once Onemain took over it all went downhill!
Senior Personal Loan Specialist (Former Employee) –  TexasOctober 11, 2018
Think of all the negatives and that's Onemain. Stressful & horrible hrs. Your working almost every Saturday without accumulating overtime so they'll adjust your hours during the week. Dont believe in good cust serv cuz all they care for is #s. I was always rushed while closing loans so they dont care about the customer understanding the loan agreement and they want you to add credit insurance on all loans or you're in trouble. (Credit insurance is optional for customers but hey they want you to squeeze it in somehow.) They push you to some fraudulent activity during collections as well. Customers can not be called more than 7 times but once you reached max you still had to call but not record on acct. I was asked to enter electronic payments using customers bank info on file without authorization. BELIEVE ME... EVERYTHING IS BAD AT ONEMAIN!
Pros
Pay was ok although bonus was never attainable!
Cons
There is nothing good to say, Worst job I've ever had, I saw excellent employees quit because of how bad it is to work there, High turnover, always short handed therefore employees are always overworked and stressed.

Prepare for a general talk about overall performance, and use broad statements as a framework for the detailed sections of the review. This is an excellent time to hear each employee’s thoughts on the store’s operations.

Not great. But not awful.
SENIOR PERSONAL LOAN SPECIALIST (Current Employee) –  USAOctober 7, 2018
OneMain is similar to most any large company. On the up side:
*You can make ok money if you are hitting goals and selling products.
*3 weeks vacation out of the gate.
*Local offices make work close.
*If management likes you, you can move up quickly.
*Small branches result in close relationships with co-workers.
*Pretty good insurance.

On the down side:
*The company recently combined with another company. If you are in a branch that was originally with the bought out company, you are treated like the red headed step child of the company.
*Management can replace you in less than a day. And they know it. And act like it.
*Management has pretty high goals to meet, and encourage behavior that is strictly against policy in order to get to these goals. Some of these behaviors could get a team member fired pretty easily. But, again, they can replace you in a day.
*Company encourages and rewards behavior that I consider misleading to customers.
*Their largest advertised event is "Customer Appreciation Days". This is when management has every team member calling every customer with an open account asking them if they would like to skip their December payment and keep that money for Christmas. What they will not mention is that in order to do that, the customer must renew their open account. Because the accounts at OneMain are massively front-loaded with interest, this generally results in the renewal of thousands of dollars of interest already paid into the account, with little or no principal reduction. I often see renewals where the balance actually goes up from the
more... original balance. In my opinion, this is outright predatory lending.

OneMain has afforded me the ability to live comfortably. I get along well with my immediate manager and direct co-workers. I truly appreciate these things from this company, however..........

There is room in the lending world to make lots of money and do it without taking advantage of or misleading people. OneMain has not yet struck this balance. I leave each day feeling as though I have done something wrong.

Had a lot of fun working for this company, plenty of room for advancement all fair on benefits and paid vacation. Can be challenging for someone that is not good at multitasking.

I enjoyed the people at OneMain. They were all very nice and helpful. The pay was good but the work was so tedious. If you do not like being on a phone all day then OneMain is not for you.

Senior Personal Loan Specialist (Former Employee) –  Orlando, FLOctober 2, 2018
There isn't much of a work/life balance. Bonuses are paid on several tiers and if one of those tiers isn't met, you are punished and a huge chunk of your bonus us taken away. Essentially, working hard all month to only have it taken away due to delinquency, something you cannot always control.

If your into taking money from the vulnerable this is the place for you. Also know that it may take you a while to earn a bonus, they don't tell you that during the interview process.

Branch Account Manager
Branch account manager (Former Employee) –  Pikeville, KYSeptember 25, 2018
I worked at this company 15+ years. It had the potential to be a decent job, however the management was horrible.all the way from branch manager up.. There was no consideration for employee at all...was always threatened with firing.
The only reason I stayed was money and I was close to retirement. I would never recommend this company.

If you are not into change then the financial industry is not for you. With the number of mergers and acquisitions over the years there have been many changes.

Assistant Branch Manager (Current Employee) –  PennsylvaniaSeptember 23, 2018
If your content and don't have aspirations to advance this is a good place for you. They have great vacation benefits and pay is decent. It's hard to advance if your not a favorite they dont take seniority or experience into consideration it's all about favouritism.

Branch Executive Assistant (Current Employee) –  CASeptember 19, 2018
I have been working over 3 years with the company. The manager does not encourage employees nor does she try to promote anyone. Takes all the credit for employees whom are working hard to overcome their goals.

Collections Agent (Former Employee) –  London, KYSeptember 18, 2018
Can be a good place to work. Management at the site I was in wasn't very good, but the employees are great. It's debt collecting on questionable loans at best, so you're going to hear some pretty bad things, but if you can leave a job at the door, this is your place.
Pros
Good employees, flexible scheduling

Customers can be harsh, management decisions
