My time with them was short but a pleasure
Senior Technical Writer (Current Employee) –  Frisco, TXDecember 19, 2017
They were a hardworking supportive lot to work with. I hope things work out so that they ask me back some time. They are swimming in a cutting edge industry right now.
Pros
A really hardworking, supportive group of people
Cons
They laid me off

No future, failed business
Customer Success (Former Employee) –  United StatesDecember 4, 2017
Offers excellent global experience. However, Ooyala has poor leadership and management worldwide. Four CEOs between Jan. 2016 and early 2017. High employee turnover. High customer churn rate. Products and solutions are lack of competitive edges. Heavy engineering debts. Company has no long term vision. Leadership has been working on an exit strategy for years.
Pros
Working from home flexibility, Modern office decor, Friendly workplace culture outside of United States.
Cons
Poor leadership offers no long term career growth or satisfaction

Smart people working on interesting technology-poor execution
Product Executive (Current Employee) –  San Jose, CANovember 29, 2017
It used to be a fun energetic environment, but lack of direction, poor transparency with executive team and overall inability to execute on product roadmap took it's toll on the company. Lack of experience at all levels of the company, no one was held accountable and Ooyala stopped innovating at the pace it needed to stay ahead of the competition. Poor moral now.
Pros
Free Lunch, games
Cons
no 401K, office location

Really Relaxed environment and an overall great place to work. Felt at home and my coworkers were all really great, had a great summer there and would highly recommend to a friend.

Great Company - The Who's Who
Administrative Assistant, Recruiting Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Mountain View, CASeptember 22, 2015
Ooyala was a fantastic place to learn and grow.

Their bar for entry was extraordinary, especially with three founders from Stanford. The SJSU CEO evened out the upitiness. :)

Amazing talent was attracted to Ooyala, especially engineers. Culture originally was very agile but as company grew it became less so, as is expected. Typically lost talent because the amazing players went and started their own companies, which is super cool and a good reason to lose folks.

Company was so successful Telstra, Australia purchased them. It was a win for lots of folks al around. Ooyala has changed a bit but their products are still evolving and highly visible and valued in the video streaming industry.
Pros
Good pay, good culture, opportunity to learn from the best.
Cons
less agile after it's purchase

Design Manager (Former Employee) –  Mountain View, CASeptember 4, 2015
During my time at Ooyala, I was given the opportunity to develop all facets of the Creative Services department and the products the group put out. This included creating and solidifying the company's visual brand, as well as strengthening and building the roles within the department itself. The forward thinking nature of the company encouraged problem solving and independent thinking in all areas, which made for an engaging and refreshing work experience.
