They recently went through a series of layoffs on their Marine side of the business. It is struggling and has been forever a year. Their concrete division is good and is the only thing that is really keeping it afloat. Since July 2017, they have had their 2 Controllers, SEC Reporting manager and the Tax Manager leave. This is not part of the lay-offs. On the corporate side, the management is pretty overbearing and are know to be intimidating to work under.
The culture is easy going
Financially struggling and middle management needs soft skill training
Pass on any accounting jobs-You’ll find something better
Accounting (Former Employee) – Houston, TX – April 19, 2018
The Accounting Departmet at Orion is not a place to be if you want to be appreciated, respected, and utilized to your fullest potential. Work/Life balance has been thrown to the back burner as current management has threatened disciplinary action if you don’t work weekends. VP of Accounting is demeaning, degrading, and lacks management skills. There is no support from HR or upper management. No direction in the department as well. You must be willing to deal with the lack of work ethics or find a new job. 9 employees have quit within the accounting department; the majority of those in the last 6 months. Look at all the open jobs at Orion....there is a reason for that!!!!
