Psychiatric RN in Kansas

You hear all the horror stories of this hospital. It's definitely eerie when first driving in. Like haunted mansions on the hills, it reeks of the1800's 'insane asylum's' movies. People are very welcoming and friendly. The osh side is the best side. Acute lacks programming and functional activities for that level of mental crisis. Like all other small old establishments, there's the lifers and the constant stream of agency flipping in and out. Management is changing often and it is a high stress environment with very I'll patients. Can't say enough good things about their security team. I always felt fairly safe. And they are 2 minutes away in crisis. But patients escalate quickly and violently at times.

It was definitely amazing at times but awful at others, if you are looking for great benefits and make a ton if money from working a bunch which i was it will be great but be aware that the place has a very toxic work environment and management is shady.

I loved my job and patients. Management is inconsistent and to much drama/gossip allowed amongst employees. They don't hold some employees accountable so some just sit and do nothing while others do all the work.

The hours are great. No evenings, weekends or holidays. No on the job training. The manager is unavailable for questions.Long drive from Kansas City. In the snow, Miami county doesn’t clear the roads.

There was so much drama between staff and between different departments. Definitely the kind of place you need to be quiet and do your job or someone will twist every word you say and get you in fights with people you didn’t even know the names of yet. On top of that, you will get mandated. I was literally the only person written up for refusing a mandation one evening after being mandated two nights in a row and 4 others refusing before me. I was the last option after the other refusals and was punished for everyone I guess. The benefits are good, but not worth it in my opinion.
