If office politics is something you enjoy
Accounting Manager (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILFebruary 8, 2019
Worked for them for 9 years and have to disagree with the other reviews pertaining to the Finance/Fiscal area. The new management this last year has created an environment of undue stress through a micro managing style. It was once a wonderful place to work but it has changed over the last year.
Pros
Full benefit package, meaningful work.
Cons
Stressful, Employees are not treated equally, Lack of communication, Management by intimidation

It was a good internship
Internship (Former Employee) –  Tallahassee, FLSeptember 27, 2018
This was the first company I did work for just as an intern that I believe is focused on the welfare of their employees. I was rather astounded as the general attitude amongst employers in the South is that employees are disposable objects not worth investing in. I wish it had been more than an internship but I was grateful for the experience nonetheless

productive work place
Facilities Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILJune 6, 2018
The Ounce was a great place to work. I ended up leaving do to a relocation of my husband's job. The team I worked with while at The Ounce was extremely supportive. We truly worked as a team each with our own specialties and expertise. We encouraged each other and pushed each other to think outside of the box and strive for contentious improvement. There was true collaboration which is not always easy to find.
Pros
great lunces
Cons
none

Mission Driven but Management Misses the Mark
Senior Manager, Internal Communications (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILApril 5, 2018
This organization has a great staff - highly dedicated to the mission, deeply caring about social justice issues. That's why people come here. They have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of very young children. They are dedicated to the work every day.

But the lack of strong leadership, with management experience and skills, is why people leave. This organization promotes people for their expertise but doesn't help them develop their managerial skills. In the last year, there has been an exodus of key members of the leadership team: human resources, marketing, policy.

Additionally, people choose to leave the organization because for some of the types of work - particularly those that are not directly supporting children - there is little room for advancement.
Pros
Good benefits, mission-driven
Cons
Lack of transparency from leadership

Nice place to work!
Administrative Assistant II (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILAugust 11, 2016
I enjoyed my experience at the Ounce. This is a nice place to work, if only it became a permanent position. The people are fun to work with, the structure of the position is great. As the administrative assistant you are the "go to" person. You are in charge of your own meetings and time management.

Staff Development Specialist Training Specialist (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILSeptember 14, 2015
the Ounce of Prevention Fund has a long history of providing quality education and support services to urban children and families. The educational qualifications and credentials of Ounce staff are outstanding. The Ounce continues to make significant contributions to the field of early childhood education through its service provision, policy advocacy, and scaled technical assistance and training of organizations and agencies throughout the country.
