Mission Driven but Management Misses the Mark
Senior Manager, Internal Communications (Current Employee) – Chicago, IL – April 5, 2018
This organization has a great staff - highly dedicated to the mission, deeply caring about social justice issues. That's why people come here. They have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of very young children. They are dedicated to the work every day.
But the lack of strong leadership, with management experience and skills, is why people leave. This organization promotes people for their expertise but doesn't help them develop their managerial skills. In the last year, there has been an exodus of key members of the leadership team: human resources, marketing, policy.
Additionally, people choose to leave the organization because for some of the types of work - particularly those that are not directly supporting children - there is little room for advancement.
Good benefits, mission-driven
Lack of transparency from leadership
