An incredibly mind numbing position made 10x worse by poor management. There is a complete disconnect between management and the department. There really isn’t any real advancement in this department. Advancement is based on your ability to do busy work that has nothing to do with you, your job, or your performance. I personally wouldn’t want to get stuck in this department anyway. Words like “team” are constantly thrown around, but there is favoritism based on who is buddy - buddy with management. You are just another metric be prepared to be treated as such.
OverDrive Inc provides a software platform and content allowing libraries to distribute content digitally and patrons to download that content for free. The company is also a certified B Corp, meaning it's social mission is baked into it's corporate mandate. The team is great and everyone believes in the work they do. However the company has rapidly grown the in the last decade or so and it shows in some areas.
Some workplace policies seem out-of-date, especially if they're trying to compete with other software companies. Working from home is still treated as an exception, even though several high level team memebrs have worked remotely for years. Benefits are good but not great, and pay is below the industry average based on title and experience.
Overall, though, OverDrive is one of the closest the area has to a tro Silicon Valley software company, and the work is important and does make the world a better place.
Great culture, good team, company has a mission beyond making money
Some policies (such as work from home) seem outdated, pay and benefits could be higher to be more in line with industry

Working at OverDrive is a dream come true! My coworkers are really kind and my manager is top notch. They treat their employees really well and recently became a Certified B company. If you don't know what that is, I suggest looking it up. They have a one hole, par 3 golf course, Foosball and ping pong tables, basketball hoop, free Yoga and CrossFit classes and outstanding health benefits . It seems surreal that a tech company would be located in Cleveland but they have been here for over 30 years! I highly recommend!
Health Care, Culture, Certified B Company, Entertainment, Good to their Employees

Working here has showed that you do not matter as an employee. If you are not buddy-buddy with management, it's like walking on eggshells everyday. The starting pay is low and the raises are a joke. Getting promoted takes forever and when you do, it's like a slap in the face but they make you feel like you should be grateful. I will say this is the best company that covers up their real problems. Everything is sugar coated and you are often blindsided. Management is a joke.
Pass this place up if you want a life outside of work.
Non-competitive pay, but relaxed culture and great potential

OverDrive is a leader in a growing industry, but tries to do too many things at once. New products and services are often promised prematurely and are not delivered when expected. Many aspects of the product are buggy or unrefined which puts forth an unprofessional image to OverDrive's relationship with its users.
Notoriously underpaid employees, and as such the company sees high turnover for an industry leader. Poor decision making by managers and executives at various departments, and there is a lot of 'buck passing' and unwillingness to help.
Overall, relaxed environment with great benefits and 401k plan, but poor focus on employee satisfaction. Company puts sales first and customer service second

I worked for OverDrive over seven years. My first manger was awesome and I highly recommend him! My last manager was horrific!
One of my colleagues who filled in for me while I was on leave asks me what I plan to do when I return back to work. I told her the same role and she laughed at me. The day I get back from leave, my colleague who filled in for me gave me a bad review and was offered my position. I had my son four weeks early and I could not back myself up while I was on leave. My manager switched me into a new role for ninety days and terminated me. (great way to avoid a law suit)
When my manager terminated me she wrote me up on an item she never followed up with me on. I was shocked when I read it but, I didn't comment -- it wasn't worth the argument.
Several times my manager could not help me with an unique task. She understands her teams processes but when it comes down to doing the actual process, she does not understand it. I would overhear her ask others on how to do the process. She is great at canned responses.
If you decide to work in Library Partner Services, get used to saying canned / sugar coated responses to paying customers to cover up items OverDrive does not share with them.
I was fortunate my salary was decent because I started out on the UI team. Expect to make under market value especially working with 10 plus others on a team doing same role. (think of it as a sweat shop)
They are experiencing a high turnover rate right now. They have lost some talented people.
I do not recommend this company to anyone. The structuremore... and politics of this company is horrific.less
This company has benefitted from their growth during an economic downturn. They are able to get away with very low salaries, and treating employees disrespectfully. Do not plan on any sort of advancement, as it is not available. Also, they will lie right to your face. Stay away.
